Daaaaa! How long do these bloodsuckers live? I’ve had generic “bed bugs” before after staying in dodgy hotels abroad. One trick I learned is to (besides wash everything of course) apply a thin coat of vaseline to the skin area. It helps with the healing and also traps them in the residue where they eventually die. But seriously they prolly dead already - from the looks of it you got bit at least 24 hours ago and the marks are just manifesting now.

Oh yeah - and jump in a pool too (the kind with chlorine).

Fortunately chiggers don’t stay attached to humans very long, they don’t hold on very tight, and when they fall off they usually don’t reattach. So the good news is most, if not all, of the little bastards have been washed or scratched away by now. And I’ve learned that they aren’t bloodsuckers—they feed on skin liquified by their saliva. I’m not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.

As for curing the itch, apparently there isn’t a whole lot you can do. I’ve been applying anti-itch cream with limited success. I tried Vasline the first night and it didn’t do a darn bit of good. I’ve read that the itching peaks at around 48 hours which is right about now. If things aren’t at least a little better in the morning, I’ll probably check with a physician to have things checked out. There is the possibility, after all, that these welts are caused by something other than chiggers.

At least you have bragging rights now: your skin is more delicious to them than your wife’s.

Oh my god.  I thought I had ‘em bad earlier this summer but mine were like a light cough to your full-blown pneumonia. 

Clear nail polish is a good remedy, the missus and I have discovered.
