Who is Up for a Good Ribbing?

By: Mr. Wilson on August 9, 2007
The Capital City Ribfest starts today outside Pershing Auditorium. Would anybody care to join me for some good food -- most of the vendors have more than just ribs -- and good company? I will be at the front gate entrance near the YWCA on N Street at Noon. I'll be the six-foot bald guy wearing an orange polo, and Mr. T will be my goofy-looking sidekick. Even if you don't get there at Noon, I do hope you'll say hi if you see me.

The Mr. and I will be there just a few minutes after noon.  We’ll be entering at the “N” St. entrance.  If you need free close parking let me know.  Change the last number of “Mark’s” phone number to a 3 and you’ll get me.

Heh, it took me a second to remember who Mark is. Then it hit me: the one with the very red face!

Which is the “front” gate?  I plan on being there.  I will be the tallish Kris Kringle looking guy.

Mr. T jokes about Ron Paul only to disguise his serious man-crush on Chuck Hagel.

We went to the SW BBQ place (far east end) and were not impressed.  The sauces were not at all spicy (even the chipotle was too mild), the beans lacked any flavor other than canned beans and the cole slaw was Pegler’s so it didn’t have much flavor either.  Service was way too slow; one gal taking money then getting the meat and sides.  If they’d have had two working a window one could get the food while the other was taking the next person’s order and collecting money.  I’ll head to another place tomorrow.  Rendezvous in Memphis still has the best ribs I’ve ever eaten!
Looked for you Mr. Wilson, but didn’t see you.  Maybe after “Mark” comes home.

Sorry I missed you, Mrs. CU. What time did you get there? Beeorkid, Mr. T, and I sat in the shade on the west side.

Desperado’s struck out, too. The sauces were ok (and only ok), but the meat was very poor. Easily the worst meat I’ve had in my years of going to Ribfest.

So the lesson appears to be: stay away from the places on the ends.

Sorry I had to miss this! I got free lunch today, though, just for lending my DDR game and dance pad out. Can’t beat free food.

That weather did a number on my delicate flower of a body.

I am now the stinky guy at work (I am so proud 😉 )

And watching Mr. Wilsons head sweat pretty much made my week.  It was intoxicating.

Good times for sure.  Nice to meet ya guyz.

I soooooo need to grill me up some ribs.

I went to the Texas something-or-other place, and that was by far the BEST meat I’ve ever had at Ribfest.  The sauces there were also fantastic.  The last couple of years, I’ve dreaded Ribfest because I always feel obligated to go, but I’ve recently been disappointed by the poor quality of the meat (maybe a Desperados thing since that’s where I’ve been going).  So this year we picked the place with the shortest line, and that place was fantastic.

Texas rib rangers?

That is what I had and was impressed.

Not a sauce guy, so no comment there.

Yes, that’s the one.  I’m not a sauce guy either, I just want something that doesn’t give me 3rd degree burns in my mouth and is a little sweet.  Their sauce fit in that category.

I enjoyed it so much I may go back.

Mr. Wilson-
We got there shortly after noon and didn’t venture too far west.  I did look over to the other lines; hopefully we’ll see you, the Missus and Robbie soon.

Karin - Let me know if you or hubby move to Lord of the Rings Online (I am on windfola server) or Conan later this year. I used to play WoW in the day but deleted my account a few years ago.

By the way, everybody, I’m going to try out nested comments sometime in the next couple months. That way you can actually reply to individual comments, rather than just throwing yours in at the bottom of the thread. That should help keep conversations coherent.
