Violence in the Big O!

By: Mr. Wilson on August 21, 2008
Another day, another shooting in the big O. This time a police officer was on the receiving end of a bullet. O! If Omaha isn't careful, they're going to go from The Big O! to The Big Bullseye! I don't think that would work as well from a marketing standpoint.

Love the logo! We already are the Big Bullseye, and have been for a while.

Gun violence has gotten out of hand in the Big O the past few years. I dont’ have the time, but it would be interesting to compare Omaha’s crime statistics to similar sized cities.

It’s just a quick glance, but this page indicates that Omaha ranges from Average to above average in the crime categories listed there.

Lincoln’s stats bounce around quite a bit.

Great logo, Mr. W. I think you’ve got a little cartoonist in you.

As long as the city continues with its policy of no accountability for the police department, I think it will only get worse.

I’ll bite; as I don’t follow Omaha politics all that closely, could you elaborate on what you mean by “no accountability for [Omaha’s] police department”?

I’m going to guess that Neal think it’s OPD’s fault that people are getting shot.  I’m proud of Neal, since that’s a step up from blaming it on the gun.

I believe he’s referring to the fact that OPD got rid of the Omaha Police Auditor position. The widely held belief is that this position would police the police. Whether or not it worked is up for debate, but the OPD took a pretty bad PR hit for getting rid of the position.

Last I heard they may reinstate the Auditor position.

Christopher’s already mentioned part of it

Where can I get t-shirts with that most appropriate logo?
