Two Restaurant Notes (Plus a Few More)

By: Mr. Wilson on August 22, 2007
Sure seems like there have been a lot of restaurant-related posts lately. As an unapologetic consumer of mass quantities, I think that's a good thing. Here are two more restaurant notes for you: First, I noticed that Five Willows (48th and Pioneers) is advertising that their restaurant is coming soon. I want to say that I once heard it would be a vegetarian restaurant, or at least very vegetarian friendly. I might be imagining that, though, so don't hold me to it. No word on a date. Second, Vincenzo's is opening a seafood joint in the Haymarket called Crabby Bill's Sea Food Shack. I place the likelihood of "I Got Crabs from Crabby Bill" t-shirts at 90%. Edited: Oops, I'm a doofus! I forgot to add these notes that Swid was kind enough to send my way:
  • Taco Bueno on N 27th opened on Saturday - the downtown location will probably open sometime next month;
  • De Leon's has opened another location on 48th & Vine (next to the former Godfather's/future Jimmy John's);
  • Roost Gourmet Sandwiches is now open;
  • Cliff's is open in their new location;
  • The State Theatre is offering free admission to college students August 24-30.
Thanks, Swid!

If anyone has noticed Taco Bueno is now open on 27th street.  My wife and I stopped by there this week and enjoyed it a lot.  I would say it is the best fast food Mexican food I have had in awhile.  And the prices are low witch makes it a good deal.  Cheap Good Food makes Duffman happy.  😊

The subject of food leads me to beverages, and a question….

is there any place in Lincoln that sells Celsius energy drinks? I haven’t been able to find the stuff. I need it for a coworker.

Here’s one more for you:

A sports bar (the name of the place escapes me at the moment) will open August 31 in the building south of Barry’s.

The bottle looks really familiar. Did I just see that yesterday at Juice Stop (Downtown location)? No promises, but you might give them a call: 402-435-4442.

I find I am so cited to try a new places, then another new one opens up and I try it, then another….

I forget to go back.  We are pretty lucky to have so much food action going on.

I stumbled across (not out of) a new bar last night, called Grata Bar & Lounge (I believe). It’s just off Yankee Hill at the end of a new strip mall behind the new Williamson Honda at 27th & Yankee Hill. Looks nice from the outside. Patio seating, pool tables inside, TVs, typical bar stuff.

I’ll give Taco Bueno a try for sure, but people don’t miss out on King Taco. Its fast food, cheap, and pretty good. Had a chicken enchilada there the other day and it was very tasty, and I think made almost entirely from white meat.

One of my quests a few years back was trying to find the best chicken enchilada.  Gonna have to check theirs out.

Called Juice Stop - no Celsius. It has nearly twice the caffeine of other energy drinks—maybe it’s not available in Nebraska. People would wake up and realize where they are.

Talk of restaurants made me wonder about some empty space on O Street that would make a nice, if not overly sized, restaurant.

What was the name of that old movie theater next to the Villager Motel? It has been vacant for a long time and used to be a country bar called Guitars and Cadillacs.

Was it the Cooper Theater? That doesn’t sound right to me, but that’s the only thing I can come up with.

You are correct, Cooper it was. Spent many a summer afternoon there during my gradeschool years.  Had some yummy pink and black licorice things that always made me feel ill on the bike ride back to Bethany.

If I remember correctly, the last movie I ever saw at Cooper was Field of Dreams.

Crabby Bill’s is going into Arturo’s old spot. Sorry if that was posted previously and I just missed it.

Thanks Meatball, I’ve been wondering where Crabby Bill’s might go. I’m looking forward to the new restaurant.

As long as I get that “Crabs” t-shirt I don’t care where they set up at! 😊

So Crabby Bill’s is a local restaurant?  I googled it and it looks like there are some in Florida so I’m assuming this is local. Anymore info on the restaurant, or a website?  I’m interested in seeing the menu for this place, yum!

According to the sign in front of the inside entrance to Vincenzo’s, the actual name of the new place will be Crabby Bill’s Seafood Shack & Tiki Bar. Coming October 2007.
