If the Country Club neighborhood gets its "Historic" designation, commuters' dreams of a wider South 27th Street may be dashed for good. Not that the odds are looking all that great anyway. The political will needed to annoy the residents of the neighborhood isn't present in City Hall, and there's no sign that it ever will be.
I very, very rarely drive on the two-lane stretch of South 27th Street, except for the small length between Sheridan and South Streets. What's your assessment of the need to widen that stretch of road?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
Was that one of the streets that peeps freaked out over the trees being cut down if the street was widened?
I like stuff that looks historic and pretty so I like the idea of the historic designation for that neighborhood. That road does suck for commuting if you’re in a hurry, but I don’t think it’s all that much better when it becomes a four lane road farther north.
I think it’s ridiculous that 27th Street isn’t four lanes through there and I find it hard to believe that the city can enforce its road plans everywhere but in that neighborhood.
It’s unfortunate that some voices speak louder than others.
How about doing something like 56th street around the O st area. Instead of making 27th st four lanes (which will probably never happen), take amother close side street and make them both one way, it will speed them up greatly. I hate how our main north-south street (as least as far as prozimity to downtown goes) is crimped in the middle.
Looks like I need to learn to type better!
You could even switch it depending on the time of day. Cool idea.
I am still having problems navigating the British circle dealies. And how silly would we feel if we widened it and then all got our new segway jet packs?
South 27th’s natural pairs would be 13th Street and 33rd Street.
I have long supported the idea of a 2+1 type system:
Make the road 3 lanes wide. The left and right lanes stick to business as usual. The center lane would be for (a) inbound traffic in the a.m.; (b) outbound traffic in the p.m.; and (c) left turn traffic during non-peak hours. That sort of system could be used on many streets throughout Lincoln.
That’s old school, dude. Teleporters are the only way to travel.
“Hey kids, there’s Big Ben and there’s Parliament.”
That’s not a bad idea. Seems to work on dodge st in omaha.
Here are a few idea i made on google…I need to get a life:

Yes. They claimed it wasn’t a very well used road anyway. I can see where you’d get that perception if you covered your eyes with your hands before you looked at 27th Street. Morons.
I think 84th is the only street that is 4 lanes from all the way south to all the way north across the whole town. Insane!
“Clark, you’re on the wrong side of the road.”
“Yes I know, honey, I’m also on the wrong side of the car.”
