Those of you who have given Centennial Mall more than a fleeting glance over the past decade know that the area, which should be a source of community (and state) pride, is an ugly, blighted mess. There's hope. New designs are in the works and they've been given a thumbs-up by the folks in charge of the inside and outside of the Capitol.
There's a hitch, naturally: a $9.6 million price tag that will cover the cost of construction and ongoing maintenance. Fundraising begins next year. I wouldn't think fundraising would be too difficult. Heck, I'd buy a brick if the price is right. We'll probably know more about our options come springtime.

Glad they are doing SOMETHING. As a downtown denizen, I would love it if the area had more value in terms of social capital. Right now the mall is a complete eyesore with little functional value at all.
Personally, I would prefer a less is better approach. Don’t populate it with tons of statues or bizarre structures and memorials that birds will just shit on. Make it a clean, wide, green space. The mall in DC should serve as a good model to emulate. My 2 centavos!

I’m glad it’s getting a needed facelift. I can’t say I loved the Nebraska relief map as shown in today’s UrinalStar.
I would like to see a splash park installed near the Children’s Museum, something grand like what Millennium Park in Chicago has. For the rest, it should be incorporated so that it’s useful for those who work down town. Benches under trees. Focal points where someone can sit and look at. Grass to sit and curl up with a book during their break. Having some place to put on summer concerts would be great, bringing it all together.

I think this would be a cool idea also. Make it a little more exciting then just a simple walkway. Be it the antelope valley park space a few blocks down now fills the role. But sometime that would be functional for groups meeting would be awesome…
Let’s just hope that the city/state devote the time, effort, and resources to keeping it a nice place to be unlike they did with the original mall. Don’t sink the funds into it unless you are committed to it.
They do not have designated camp grounds marked out yet? What gives? I am planning on camping there for sure!
