The Finest in Stark Living

By: Mr. Wilson on February 1, 2012
The site of Lincoln Recess is now known as Parkhaus. After all these years, it finally has a name. Parkhaus is, of course, an appropriate name. See, it has housing and parking. You can park where your house is. Get it? OK, so I'm not completely sold on the name. That's ok. At least the darn thing is getting built. The structure is even nearing completion. How awesome is that? Pretty soon you'll be able to move in to a suite with a by-the-bed leasing option that won't leave you on the hook if your roommate bails out mid-lease. I'm excited to see what sorts of tenants they get lined up for the retail space on the first floor. Jeff Korbelik says that PepperJax is interested in opening a shop Downtown. That, to me, sounds like a match made in heaven. What do you folks think about the name and the building? Sure, it's not the 15-story building (or giant two-building complex) we once dreamed of. But it's not too shabby overall, particularly considering it was planned and built on the tail end of a recession. I still miss Star Ship 9, but it's hard to argue that Parkhaus leaves us worse off.

They certainly seem to be marketing to students, with the lease/bedroom, which I find surprising.  Maybe I shouldn’t be but it seems that rents would have to fairly high in a new building and I wonder if students can afford.

The Ikea kitchens are a nice touch.

Besides students, this seems like an OK option for an adjunct/visiting faculty member.

I’m curious about the prices. It does seem like a perfect place for students, but UNL seems set on providing similar suite style dorms so it will be interesting to see if they can fill the place up given the competition.

I’m pretty sure that Chioptle was planning on moving back to it’s original location once it’s done.

And on a side note.. I saw Mrs. Wilson last night at the church.  I feel kinda weird saying hello to you guys though, the introvert in me tells me that to just say hello in my head :rofl

I was there too, helping pick up kiddos. Feel free to say howdy any time!

One of the big advantages for students: booze. Many students will pay a premium to have dorm-like living with the addition of booze.

True. Booze (well, booze you don’t have to hide), being able to have whoever stay over whenever, and general lack of oversight would be big draws.

That and being an easy stumble from the bars on O street.
