KFOR's annual Best of Lincoln supplement is in the print copy of today's Journal Star. Sorry paper-phobic folks; KFOR hasn't yet joined the 21st Century, so no online version for you.
Although a Best of Lincoln designation makes for great advertising, the awards are really more about name-recognition and absolute number of customers than quality, value, and service. Every year some categories are right on, while others seem laughably out-of-whack. Half the fun of looking through the supplement is judging for yourself how screwy your friends' and neighbors' tastes really are. Just one example: in "Fast Food", Burger King placed third. Really, Lincoln? Out of all of the fast food options in town, Burger King is the third best? I find that difficult to swallow.
Anyway, for those of you who are willing to risk a paper cut to see which local companies you and your neighbors voted "best" in Lincoln, which categories' winners look right this year? Which look out of whack? Share your thoughts in the comments.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
it is strange how that list turns out. Red Robin #2? yuck,,,,,
I actually laughed out loud when I saw that Long John Silvers was #2 for seafood. I’d go to Holmes Lake for my seafood before going to LJS.
I was once solicited to fill out these ballots by someone who works at a popular Nebraska-based Italian restaurant (I’m pretty sure you can guess which one just by paging through the supplement). Ever since then, I’ve considered these things to be completely invalid and nothing more than a contest to see which place can fill out the most ballots.
yeah that threw me as well.
I eat at LJS about once a year and swear to never go back.
“Oh they can’t mess up shrimp, I will just get some shrimp.” “NEVER again”, wait a year repeat.
The last time I was there was back in high school, on a Friday during Lent. I had to get food for someone and they chose that place, so I decided to get something as well. I got a three-piece ‘fish’ basket. One of my pieces of ‘fish’ was a triangle-shaped heap of greasy, soggy ‘bread’. I vowed never to go back there and have been true to that vow.
Stuffed ballots or not, the pure purpose of the whole thing is to make money for KFOR and the Journal Star. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But I’m sure some Lincolnites thing the results are golden.
When I was in college I worked at the grocery chain that tops several categories. They had us filling out those stupid things the whole morning.
True. These things are a load of crap. It said that they only allowed ONE vote per email address. I wonder how many “garbage” addresses logged on to cast a vote.
This thing has been nothing but a popularity and ballot-box stuffing contest since it’s inception.
Since when is Long John Silvers a “seafood” restaurant???? It’s a FAST FOOD place with frozen re-cycled fish sticks as it’s mainstay.
And to have Burger King in there???? WHAT???? Let’s just NOT go there.
There’s a lot more that shouldn’t even be on the list. But, I didn NOT vote nor will I EVER waste the time to fill out a ballot for this pat-yourself-on-the-back award.
Burger King at number three is a travesty. It should clearly be Number One for fast food. Bacon double cheeseburger and onion rings? Hell yeah. PLUS… it’s the gift that keeps on giving (now entering the realm of a BorK post).
:p
a few years ago on an older version of my site I did a best bacon burger cheeseburger in Lincoln and BK got 3rd for just being purdy darn good and reliable. I really do not like that they use precooked wimpy bacon, but the chemical flavor is really hard to beat. And the clear grease that drips down the arm is awesome.
Man I gotta find that again.
