The folks behind Taste of Lincoln made a trip recently to Capital City Grill, the newest restaurant in the former La Paloma / Brazen Head / Magnolia / etc. location in the Haymarket. Apparently it was fantastic. They're working on a review now. In the mean time, have any of you been there yet? What's the buzz around town? I sure hope this isn't yet another case of a great restaurant going away thanks to a good but cursed location.

Can’t say I’m hearing any buzz, but here are my thoughts, posted Nov. 6 on Taste of Lincoln, about a lunchtime visit:
Went to Capital City Grill with four office mates for lunch today. I had the prime rib/Havarti sandwich. Three of my companions had the bottomless soup/salad, and one had a burger. All were quite satisfied with their meals. Our waiter forgot to bring ketchup for our lone burger eater and didn
Went last week with friends and wasn’t blown away. The prime rib I had was decent, not great. The risotto was very good. My companions all had the special, a sliced tuna steak which they all said was pretty good. The prices were up there, but the portions were hefty. It is a very nice looking restaurant, but I’ll probably stick to Bread and Cup for dinner in the Haymarket.
Thanks for the pressure to write the review 😊
I had the Santa Fe bowl and it was great! I get the bowls at Chipotle and this was similar but the combination of spices and risotto made it great.
I also work with two vegetarians and I thought they had a lot of options of them. Overall, with grill in the name I thought it was going to be another Brewskys/Lazlos copy, but I agree that it’s more on the level of Bread and Cup.
I did see that the bar is opening up The Bar and Grill in the old Crabby Bills.
I’ve been there twice for lunch, and both times it was a little disappointing, but I’d give it one more try, probably for dinner. On my first visit, I ordered a gouda mushroom burger, and while it was a little over-cooked, it was still tasty. The two people I dined with that day loved their food though. One had a veggie sandwich that looked good, and the other had the Philly Steak risotto bowl.
On my next visit, I had the soup and salad combo. Like the poster above said, the salad was obviously premade, and had some unappetizing wilted brown lettuce. The dressing was delicious though…I believe it was a creamy Parmesan. The French Onion soup was a disappointment though. It had a very canned taste.
All in all, I think the restaurant holds promise, and I’ll try it again soon. I’d love to see something succeed in that location.
As a side note, they really need to get rid of those stupid bench seats at the tables in the front room. They are too big for the small enclosed areas, and they’re annoying to get in and out of.
I had the smoked salmon when I was there. It was decent. A wee it too dry for my taste, even with the berry-butter, but it wasn’t bad. Just.. boring. My GF had the same meal and was thrilled with it, but I’ve had better. Maybe it was just growing pains. I do hope this place can succeed where so many others haven’t, though.
Had Dinner Tuesday at 9 South and was told it was the last night for the old menu.
An all new menu and wine list was going to premier Wednesday. Looking forward to new choices.
Oooh, interesting news, Moses. Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to see what they cook up. It looks like the menu on their website is still the old version, so I guess I’ll just have to “force” myself to go down there and see the new offerings for myself.
Such self-sacrifice is much admired.
Well guys, sounds like we should hit 9 South soon!
Haven’t tried it yet, but the 2 reviews it got on Yelp were terrible.
