Highway 2 is getting a facelift this summer. The project includes improvements like new curbs, extended turn lanes, and road resurfacing. It's the latter item I don't really understand. The road surface doesn't strike me as all that bad, especially east of, oh, 20th Street or so. I would much rather drive on a slightly bumpy road for a couple more years and have the Department of Roads spend their bucks on a tiny little project to the south that would get almost all truck traffic off Highway 2 for good. But that's just me.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
I guess you can polish a turd afterall.
The resurface, if it’s similar to what they’ve done on U.S. 77, is to first install rebar-type material, fill in those spots then mill the entire road surface.
You can see where they’ve done this on 77, which was built at a time when federal standards deemed rebar an unnecessary expense. What they ended up with was an uneven road surface that made a healthy “ka-chunk, ka-chunk” noise as you drove over the free-floating plates of concrete.
The resurfacing on 77 has created a nice driving surface but it’s time consuming work.
Still, I agree with Mr. Wilson. Leave the resurfacing of Highway 2 for a few years and focus on a south bypass.
