Sure, Memorial Day weekend is supposed to herald the start of summer. But I argue that this weekend is really summer 2009's first hurrah.
The first thing on my list is the Friday Night Concert Series at Southpointe Pavillions. The Wilsons have attended the concerts for years now. Heck, Robbie had his first kiss at one of the concerts two years ago. Tonight's performer (PDF) for the 6:30-8:30 concert is D'Funk.
Coming up on Tuesday is Jazz in June, another summer staple I love. As a bonus, there are five Tuesdays in June this year, which means five performances for us.

My wife and I plan to hit at least one of the Jazz in June concerts. I think we’re going to check out the sculpture garden tour that occurs before the concert later on in June.

Alright, Jazz in June is packed to the gills every time right? So why not either expand it to the entire summer or move it around to different venues throughout the warm months?
The fact that it is packed is one of its draws, I think. Say what you will about an event or venue’s busy-ness, but often a critical mass of people is what ensures the continued attendance of a critical mass of people. Circular? Yes. Humans are funny social animals.
