Snow Day! Let’s Play 20 Questions
By: Mr. Wilson on

- The answer is related to Lincoln.
- The questions should be worded so they generate a yes/no answer.
- Each person may ask one question at a time. After your question has been answered, you may ask another one.
- Ask your question as a comment to this blog post. Do not ask your question as a reply to another comment (i.e. a “nested comment")
- You may discuss among yourselves. Just say something like "Not a guess" if you want to make clear to me that your comment isn't an actual guess.
- It is not a place.
- It is not a person.
- It is not an animal.
- It is not an event.
- It is an inanimate object/thing.
- It is an artistic object of some kind.
- It is not located Downtown.
- It is not listed here.
- It is located in a park.
- It is not located south of Pioneers Blvd.
- It is located south of O Street.
- It is located west of 48th Street.
- It is not located east of 16th Street.
- It is not "Smoke Signal".
- It is not within 4 blocks of the Capitol
- It is mostly made of metal.
- It is not the bison/buffalo statue at Pioneers Park.
- It is not the elk statue at Pioneers Park.
- It is not this.
- It is "Daydreams", a sculpture located in Cooper Park made by Sondra L. Jonson. West A Dad made the winning guess just in the nick of time!

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
is it a place?
No.
A person?
No.
is it an animal?
No.
is it an event?
good question!
No.
Is it an inanimate object?
A Thing?
Is it an artistic object of some kind?
Yes.
Judge rules: This question is identical to foxspit’s question at 10:45am. (He beat you by a minute!) I won’t count it against the 20 questions. See above for the answer.
Yes.
great minds think alike….except mine is a wee bit slower
Is this object located downtown?
No.
Is the object mentioned here?
Nicely asked…....
No.
Very nicely asked indeed! Too bad it didn’t work out. Had I gone with Iron Horse Legacy—which I considered for all of 12 seconds because it was too easy—you would have been only a question or two away!
I’m going to be out of the office from approx. noon until 2:00pm. I will resume my answers then.
I’m back!
Is the object located at a park?
Yes.
is it located south of PIONEERS Boulevard?
No.
Is it south of O Street?
Yes.
Is it west of 48th Street?
Yes.
Is it east of 16th Street?
No.
Is it “Smoke Signal” at Pioneers Park?
No.
Not a guess - merely a conversation point…
Dang - I should have asked about Van Dorn in my question, not Pioneers, as I was thinking it was something in Pioneers Park. That will teach me for rarely going west of the bypass.
Ironically, the buffalo statue was what I was thinking when I asked if it was an animal. Perhaps I should have specified if I meant a living animal.
Is it located within 4 blocks of the Capitol building?
Are you going to ask if it’s the buffalo?
Not yet
No.
Note that for the purposes of this question I interpreted “within 4 blocks” as follows: the item is not within the ellipse that has points at Centennial Mall & O; 19th & J; Goodhue & D; and 10th and Lincoln Mall. (That is, four blocks from the center of the north, east, south, and west sides of the block on which the Capitol building sits, NOT the Capitol building itself. Put another way: my circle is bigger.)
Now, that level of precision may be important, or it may be a red herring. That’s for you to figure out!
By the way, that was the 15th question. Only five to go. Ask wisely!
Also not a guess, but I’m thinking the stone pillars in Pioneers Park where everyone gets married.
For clarification, and I don’t think this should count as its own question, does your circle include the Capitol grounds, extending to the sidewalks surrounding all four sides?
Still not a guess - there could be a number of things in Pioneers. I sidetracked that with my other question below. You can see where I am going with that line of questioning, since you-know-who celebrated a birthday yesterday (he looks good for 200) and is erected on the Capitol Grounds.
Just sayin’ ...
Fletch, would the Capitol grounds be considered a park in relation to question #9? If that’s where you’re leading?
@Fletch: Yes it does. Phrased more explicitly: it’s not the Capitol, nor anything on the Capitol grounds, nor anything within (roughly) four blocks of the Capitol block.
Good point. I suppose it would not. Nice catch. I probably wasted a question, but I had to be sure. I had also thought perhaps it was the fountains/mall area. Of course I consider those to be downtown, but I wanted to be sure.
These are so great. What a wonderful way to kill a Friday!
Is it mostly made of metal?
Paging Gene and Fletch.
(I’m only posting this here because you two are following this thread.)
Yes.
Since the Native American and pillars are both stone, I’m also thinking of the buffalo.
By my calculations (double check me), here are the parks in the region we’ve narrowed down:
Pioneers Park
Sawyer Snell
Standing Bear
Coddington & West A Park
northern)Wilderness Park
YMCA Wright Park
Cooper
...and judging by the discussion so far, Pioneers is the frontrunner. Anything we’re leaving out in Wilderness or someplace?
I love watching this stuff play out. Meanwhile, I just sit in the corner with a sly smirk on my face. 😉
I am not familiar with the other parks. So I am going for it…
IS IT THE BUFFALO?
Why don’t you guys try and narrow it down to a specific park first?
The buffalo just seemed like it needed to be asked, since we were circling around it for awhile. You are probably right, however.
Nope not the buffalo. I am posting this from my phone so we will see if it goes through…
I mean, as Nikkidemas states, there are a number of parks that are in that quadrant of the city. Before assuming its Pioneers, if I were you guys I would try and narrow it down to the specific park first. Just saying…
Dang. Okay, let’s follow the Mr. T plan. Since I don’t know any of those parks well, I’ll sit back and watch this play out. Sorry to have blown a Q on the buffalo.
Well, I was just offering a suggestion there as an observer. Feel free to take whatever direction you want! Heh.
No.
(Just duplicating what I already sent in from my phone.)
Is it the Elk statue at the north entrance/exit to Pioneer’s Park?
No.
Maybe someone should go drive around all these parks to narrow down the choices. LOL
Or, Nikki, the queen of Google Earth, can zoom in and figure which parks feature some sort of metal artsy object.
Okay people. I have the newest Google Earth. Is there a good way to peruse these parks? I don’t know where they all are. LOL
There are a lot of parks. We should have figured a western boundary to narrow it down, or asked earlier on if it was in Pioneers Park - that could have narrowed it and saved some q’s.
We should have done 25 questions on this one. LOL
We should have done 25 questions on this one.
Yes.
Oh wait, was that a question? 😉
Hey Fletch, email me at westadad at yahoo dot com. I’d like to ask you about a possibility without jeopardizing the last two questions.
[E-mail de-linked to provide a little spam protection. - Mr. Wilson]
No, it was not. It wasn’t even in the form of a question. LOL
Is it these?
http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/parks/nature/natcenter/pic/panel.jpg
No.
Last question folks!
I figure now that there’s just one question remaining I’ll go ahead and say it: The item is most certainly not at Pioneers Park. But then, I think you’ve figured that out by now.
This will call for a huddle. I know nothing of these parks, people.
at Taj Mahal now, will drive by a few parks on the way there. Maybe come up with an answer to this great challenge!
Is it the Winds of Life motorcycle sculpture, made by the boys at TMCO?
Is that in a park?
oh duh… no. may i classify as not a guess, after the fact?
is it this? At Cooper Park?
http://www.sljonsonstudios.com/Daydreams.html
I vote that yes, this guess should be discounted after the fact, leaving WestADad’s question below as Question 20.
And if he’s wrong, let’s discount that one after the fact, and have a new Number 20.
I’ll be a nice guy and pretend this guess didn’t happen. 😊
Is that your final answer?
Methinks the Wind of Life question was the 20th! It *WAS* the 20th!!!
Man, do you really want to be that kid at the playground?
I’m just adding up the math dude, nothing wrong with that. 20 questions = 20 questions, not 19 questions.
yes, my final answer.
You’re correct! And on the very last question! (OK, maybe it was 20.5 questions.) Good work everyone!
I’m curious, West A Dad, how much sleuthing did this take you to figure out?
My wife suggested Cooper, Friday evening while discussing the days events. I was dead set on Pioneers Park though. Fletch was right, we should have just eliminated the whole park instead of wasting four questions. We drove past Cooper just to have another look and went to Peach Park because we’ve never explored it before. It’s a nice little park.
Cooper just had to be the choice after talking it over during dinner last night. You are good Mr. Wilson, great challenge! I look forward to the next one.
20.5 questions?? I knew you’d clinton you’re way out of this.
We decided to cut Sarah some slack, because she accidently asked that question and wanted to pull back after Nikki reminded her that the answer was in a park.
As Mr. Mom would say, 20 or 21, whatever it takes.
For the record, WestADad was on this last night, as he emailed me all this to discuss prior to posting here. Had he just put it out there when he emailed me, he’d have beat Sarah’s question via timing.
Great stuff, Mr. W!
