Six and Out

By: Mr. Wilson on March 25, 2009
LPS Superintendent Susan Gourley will call it quits in June 2010. Plenty of LJS commenters are either happy to see her go or furious that she will have only been here six years. I don't have any specific beefs with Dr. Gourley. I don't care for some of LPS's priorities, but LPS was and remains a decent school system. Most of my complaints about public education have little to do with the district's superintendent; instead, the state, the feds, and the culture of public education get most of my ire. I'm curious to hear what my friends and family in LPS will have to say about Dr. Gourley's retirement. I can imagine there will be no shortage of opinions within LPS. What do you think about Dr. Gourley and her eventual departure?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.

If the LJS charged commenters for using capital letters and exclamation points, they’d be in the black in no time.

I don’t have a strong opinion. This seems to have come out of left field. I would have liked to see her stay a little longer. I think overall she’s done a decent job. It was a PR nightmare to get the raises last year, but all in all, I’d say it’s been more positive than negative having her here.

She played us for fools.  Remember when she pretended to like corn when she started.

I feel so dirty :(

The measure of success for public officials these days is how much money you can suck out of the taxpayers.  By that measure, I’d say she did pretty well. However, I’m not sure we needed to pay someone $1.5M to do that.

This is my favorite line in all the comments: “I son’t know where you been over the last few years but no big cooperation looks at people that are decicated.”
