Can anyone explain why it is that the sign for "Tina's Mexican Restaurant" on 10th near Van Dorn Park reads like "Lina's Mexican Restaurant"? In the LJS review last month, it states that "Tina's" was named after the owner's daughter.
Anyway, I'm glad to see this place take off the way it has. It reminds me quite a bit of D'Leon's, but as an improved D'Leon's version 1.5. The chicken fajita plate is excellent - a plate of grilled chicken cooked with onions, bell peppers and a pretty spicy sauce, along with rice, beans, and choice of warm corn or flour tortillas. I'd just like to know what the deal is with the name of this place.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
Shortly after that place opened, I did notice some names filed in the small print in the LJS. Maybe Tina of the other Tina’s registered the name.
lol
You have the eye of an eagle sir.
I visited a few weeks back and enjoyed it. The plate was crammed full of stuff. I got a #5 taco and enchilada. The beef taco was amazing. A bit of grease dripped out, but it was clear, not orange with seasoning. The enchilada was cheese and decent, the sauce on it was really lame though. That was the only negative about my meal.
I look forward to visiting again.
I have tried their beef taco, chicken taco, fish taco, carne asada taco, chicken fajitas, and huevos rancheros. All were great except the enchilada. The enchilada sauce was like ketchup - really thick in consistency, with a sweet taste and little else to offer. I avoid that one but still like the rest of their offerings. For the price of food, quality, and friendly service, Tina’s (or Lina’s) has got to be one of my favorite new places in town.
I ate there just last night. I had a chorizo torta and a pollo asado taco. The taco was particularly tasty: seasoned chicken, tomatoes, onions, and guac on a soft corn tortilla. Mmm.
I believe the new Mexican restaurant at 16th and Old Cheney (where Doozy’s used to be) opens today. I think it’s called El Guadalajara? I’ll probably give it a try this evening.
Swoof confirms
I am guessing, it is sort of like ordering a cake….
Someone at the signage company, either has crappy handwriting, or is half deaf…
I am guessing Tina got the sign for 1/2 the original price, and you cannot fix a sign like you can a cake.
I liked! I had the Carnitas Enchiladas and was impressed. The roasted pork meat was very tasty. The salsa was very good, a tad bit spicy but not overwhelmingly so. There were quite a few patrons at 6:00 and the owner said he had quite a lunch rush. I’m no D’Leon’s expert, so I can’t make a comparison.
Hope it works out…he may need to expand into a larger area someday. And I had the name wrong. It’s Mi Guadalajara (the owner said it’s his wife’s favorite city in Mexico.)
Thanks for the quick note Carnac! I’ll have to stop in one of these days.
