There was an earthquake yesterday well to the east of us. It was too far away to have any effect on us here in Lincoln, but it made me wonder: have any of you ever felt an earthquake here in Lincoln? I know it's possible for us to feel the occasional tremor, but I can't recall ever talking with anybody who had noticed one. I'm not talking about the retrospective "Yeah, I kinda felt something" when you heard the next day that there had been an earthquake nearby. I'm talking about feeling it at the time and pretty much knowing what it was. Anybody?

I’ve never felt one, but I actually have earthquake insurance coverage for my home.

I was sitting in the living room of my UNL dorm when I felt a faint 2-3 second oscillation that lasted for about 10 seconds, total. My roommate was also in the same room at the time, and he felt it as well. When I went online to see if an earthquake had occurred, I found the one in Butte. So I reported it. (We were two of six people in Lincoln to do so.)

I first found out about this morning’s earthquake from an IM a friend in Kansas City sent me; the earthquake woke her up.

I would not be able to tell since my house shakes daily.  I live in the south bottoms and am between the tracks.  The track two houses away is one used for switching cars around.  The deep rumbles of when the trains reverse direction are kinda soothing.  Also the pounding of construction on the harris overpass lulled me to sleep for a few weeks there.

If we ever have a tremor here in Lincoln, the news media will be sure to let us know again and again. We’ll also have huge spreads in the paper on the anniversary every year.
