I was hoping for another indoor carting place.

I live in College view, and my house was built in 1963. I drive a 22 year old car and my wife has a 7 year old minivan. I get really tired of people in South Lincoln telling me what I should drive, how my house should look, and pushing everyone to keep up with the Joneses. We have 4 kids and a furniture place that doesn’t give me a nosebleed is very welcome until our kids get older. Here is a thought-if shopping at Kush’s furniture place is going to offend your friends so much, why don’t you all get in on a group buying trip to Pottery Barn or IKEA or whatever so you can all make sure you match and that no one else that visits you might be offended by your personal furniture choice.

All you need to do is check out the precinct-level voting patterns to draw your Lincoln class warfare battle lines.  Crime density maps will show the same thing.

I can’t tell if your post is a joke or not.  If it’s serious, when has anyone in South Lincoln told you what to drive, how your house should look, etc.?  I’ve observed this Greasers-vs-Socs thing for a few years now, and 95% of the attacks come from the north.

I live in South Lincoln, and have never been told what to wear, where to eat, or what to drive.

If I am confused, I simply ask my butler or my maid for their input.

In all seriousness, I lived in the Pine Lake Heights area for years, and my living room included pieces from both Rod Kush and from Ethan Allen. I think if it looks okay, and it seems like a value to you, who cares where you buy what you buy?

I frequent the south Wal-Mart, and you see plenty of fancy cars in the parking lot next to where the white trash folks park. Can’t we just all get along?

My comment was reserved for those in South Lincoln that apparently glorify their place in the city and vehemently and vociferously protest any encroachment on the perfect Lincoln lifestyle. Oh Noes…a Rod Kush! Let’s hope he fails because South Lincoln is ‘too good’ for a store like that, etc etc. These are the people that help enforce a stereotype that exists mostly in their heads. Ive lived in North Lincoln, Ive live Downtown, and I live here, now and they all have their advantages and disadvantages-and they all have ‘rich’ people and not, too.

This whole north/south thing just puzzles me. I don’t remember there being any outcry when Wal-Mart (WAL-MART!) decided to build at 91st and Highway 2. There was a huge brouhaha when they first wanted to come to Lincoln 15 years ago just north of 84th and O Street.  Oh, the trash! And the noise! And all the lights! No! No! No! (uh, may I remind you folks that your home currently overlooks an abandoned drive-in movie theatre? Would a Wally World have really been trashy?)

I think, strictly demographically speaking, that Kush’s old location was a better fit that the new location, but who knows. I am just glad to see something going on in that building. It’s not like that Kmart attracted the world’s finest clientele anyway (and yes, I did shop there).

This is part of the reason I continue to live in “the ghetto” (that’s a joke). Not because people will ASK me to buy a better car, etc., but because being around expensive things tends to make one want expensive things. As it is, I’m perfectly happy with my goodwill/ craigslist finds and can put my money towards other things.
