Everybody who loves recess raise your hand.
Yup, just as I expected. Everybody's hand is up. Awesome. Karin kicked off the idea over here and several commenters said it was a good idea. Anybody want to move from idea to reality? I'm up for a little four square over the lunch hour. Or maybe some dodge ball tomorrow.
Here are the questions:
Are you in?
Today at noon or tomorrow at, say, 11:00?
What games should we play?

Anyone have a ball? I would totally love to jump rope, but I doubt anyone has one of those..
I think during a weekday is the best. Who wants to come downtown on their day off? 😉

I could grab some 5 ft network cables 😉

It was just me and the lead guy, so we talked about library stuff. I’m going to start getting Ubuntu books into Lincoln libraries.
I would love to try double dutch jump rope again. It’s been a looooong time.

I say we get equipment (I swear I have a jump rope somewhere, and maybe even a ball) and try for next week. What do you guys think?
Or we could just play a big game of downtown tag. Or red light green light. Or red rover. Or some midwestern children’s game that I’ve probably never heard of.

I can bring those big sidewalk chalk and we can do some hop scotch.
I will volunteer to be the outcast strange kid who you all pick on and call names. Which will scar me for life and will serve the revenge many many years later 😉

Hm… that revenge thing doesn’t sound fun.
Sidewalk chalk is definitely essential. That new blacktop is crying out for it.

I keeeeed I keeeeed
figure out a day to do it and I bet I can scrounge up a bunch of peeps.
I am so gonna wear my black pants and blue shirt just like in the catholic school days.
Gonna bring fruit rollups, PB&J, and a samich bag full of chee-tos that I will smear the finger cheese on my shirt.
I will work on a good kool aid stain around my mouth this weekend.
Oh and I call dibs on being the stinky kid.

This is a great idea…you should start a regular noon-hour recess. Bring your lunches, roll up your sleeves and play.

Wednesdays might be a good day. A little middle of the week relief.
I second the fruit roll ups.
Think I can convince my mom to pack me a lunch? 😉

But I had a scheduled phone call today. :’( Waahhh!

I’m sorely tempted to take a day off sometime this month and schedule a local recess here.
Karin
August 3, 2007 at 5:52PM
Let’s proclaim it: next Wednesday, August 8th, 12:00 Noon. Be there or be square. Hopefully it won’t rain!
I’ll bring a ball and some kind of jump rope. And a PB&J Sandwich, most likely. And little carrots in a baggie.
I saw them out measuring to paint lines on the blacktop today during lunch. Why is it the government can ONLY move quickly when it comes to making a parking lot? 😛

The lines are done. There is one spot that is cross-hatched out as no parking, in the middle of the lot. It’s kind of bizarre.
Sarah

Cross-hatched with diamonds or squares as the resulting shapes? If squares, I think it is a designated four square play area!!! 😛

You guys HAVE to play four square. It was the only reason I returned to kindergarten after finding out I would not be learning to read on the first day. At my school it was called “hogwash” though.

oh my GOD I hope it’s not this hot on Wednesday!

August 6, 2007 at 1:08PM
No kidding! The humidity is a nice 86% right now. Ugh.
You know, Karin, this weekend I got to thinking. Ribfest starts on Thursday. I don’t want to be accused of continuously moving back the date of recess, but merging bbq and recess could be fun. Your thoughts?
Karin
August 6, 2007 at 2:28PM
I don’t know that there would be enough room for recess in ribfest… plus having to pay to get into recess seems kinda sacrilegious, don’t you think?
(I’ve never been to ribfest, you do have to pay to get in, right? Or did I dream that up?)
I’m going to the $1 store today and getting jump rope, bubbles, a ball, and whatever else outdoor type stuff I can find.
Gene
August 6, 2007 at 4:46PM
Yes, you do have to pay to get into ribfest. It’d be like private school.

Yes, you do have to pay to get into ribfest.
To clarify, there is no entry fee on Thursday and Friday before 2:00pm.
