A bit of Downtown dining news: looks like a new restaurant is opening between Oso Burrito and Abloom the flower shop (the name of which escapes me right now). A sign for Inna's Pirogi Cafe popped up recently. Looks like one worth checking out when it opens.
If you're wondering, a pirogi is a crescent-shaped dumpling of unleavened dough, stuffed with sauerkraut, cheese, mashed potatoes, cabbage, onion, meat, or fruit.

I saw the improvements taking place there but had no idea what was planned. Maybe this will be a unique offering to downtown eateries!
The flower shop is called A Bloom.
Very interesting. Chances are these will be bastardized versions of the Polish treats I grew up eating. I’m not sure if the owners intend their offerings to be snacks or meals, so I’m curious to see what their presentation will be.
I believe that Pirogis are a variant of “piroshkis.” When I used to live in St. Paul, there was a place called the “Russian Piroshki Tea House,” and they had these piroshkis that were basically like Runzas but good. I am hoping this new place will have the same thing or something close to it.
Inna had a pirogi booth set up at the taste of Lincoln event this summer. I spoke with her, and she mentioned that she’d be opening a restaurant soon. The pirogi I had was pretty good, by the way.
