The Lancaster County Board has given up on the Salt Creek tiger beetle. After several years of contributing a few tens of thousands of dollars toward purchasing saline wetlands north of Lincoln, this year the County won't contribute a dime. The decision will disappoint many, but some salty marshland and a couple hundred beetles don't stand much of a chance in a tight budget environment.
However all is not lost if you're saddened by the news. Other contributors -- the City of Lincoln among them -- are still in the game. For now.
