Old Timey School Gets New Life

By: Mr. Wilson on April 24, 2009
I love that the Heritage School is moving to Pioneers Park. That's a great place for it, especially if they locate it in or adjacent to one of the park's prairie areas. I would love to see them plop it out near Coyote Point, but that won't happen for a whole bunch of reasons. I assume it will wind up near the Nature Center parking lot. Do you have any fond memories of Heritage School? My memory of it is mostly fuzzy. I recall dressing up, preparing lunch, and sitting in the building, but that's about all.

I remember that we had a spelling bee and I lost I didn’t capitalize “bible.” It was a fun time! I remember writing on old pieces of slate during class and using handmade soap. I have good memories of that place. I also remember that we had to take out the “under God” part of the pledge of allegiance as that wasn’t added until the Eisenhauer administration.

Never heard of the place, sorry.

I won the spelling bee.  My coup de grace was “February”.

How accurate/recent is that map? Last few times I was there I don’t recall there being much in the way of ponds.  Just big shallow fields.

I think the quantity of water is heavily dependent upon the time of year. If I’m not mistaken, several areas are more like seasonal wetlands than ponds.

I won on “turnip.”
