Not So Fast

I probably should, but I really don't pay much attention to politics up the road in Omaha. Still, I've glanced now and then at recent stories about the effort to recall Mayor Suttle. Apparently he has annoyed a bunch of people. Or something. Like I said, I haven't followed it all that closely. The recall election was yesterday and, with most votes counted, Suttle is declaring victory. But "victory" isn't the word I'd used to describe a 51/49 split. That 49% doesn't represent people who didn't vote for him. It represents people who hate him so much they want him out of office. That's a really, really important distinction. The dude is as lame as lame ducks come. Aren't you glad you live in happy little Lincoln where we get to bitch and moan about things like late night phone calls?

He is still a socialist, communist, marksist, commie, nazi who dared to balance the budget and keep a AAA rating. I bet he is feasting on halal stem cell biscotti while selling his soul to science spelled backwards right now.

Suttle sounds like a kenyan name.

Where is his birth certificate?

The OWH had a comparison of the Suttle-Daub election and the recall, and the votes are within a thousand on each side. I was able to resist the almost irresistible prospect of the new Lincoln arena and moved to Omaha in November.  The way Suttle presents himself to the public is hilarious.  Sometimes you don’t know if you’re reading a real story about him or something from The Onion.

Aha! You moved to Omaha. That explains why you haven’t been around here lately.

Will I see you out at Dodge Park during the upcoming OLSL season?

I still come around here often, though I have to admit I’ve successfully detached myself from Lincoln’s local politics.  The news about the arena is amusing though.

I’ve played one soccer match (as goalie) since I blew my knee out in 2006.  A guy I work with helps to run one of the leagues up here, and he asked me if I’d play.  Right now I’m saying no, but the temptation is strongest when the weather is nice and the grass is green, so you never know.
