No Work for You!

By: Mr. Wilson on January 5, 2005
Well, no work for me anyway. I can't believe UNL actually closed today. I have to think part of the decision was based on the car accident death of Derek Kieper, a 21 year-old UNL student, on Tuesday morning. I knew Derek from his time at the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center. In addition to pursuing five (!!!) majors, I hear Derek could also belt out a helluva Bohemian Rhapsody.

WTF?!? I can understand the little kiddies getting otu of school, but hte big kids.

Geez, I think it was fourth grade when we got or first snow day, and now they get off for the littlest things.

THe University use to never close…pansies.

OK So I’m jealous since the Med Center will never call off class for the med students (Pharm, nursing, etc. I hear their profs will cancel class even if the U doesn’t)

I think it was an appropriate call to make due to the weather. Given that I was, of course, forced to drive around the block that day just to repark my car because that is the law here in town (see other story), I can attest to the poor street conditions on that day for communters in Lincoln (or for that matter from other communities).

Derek was a great guy who had a great future. He had a strong interest in current events and international affairs had a very unique perspective on things.

I should also add that the LJS article’s depiction of him as some “militant anti-seat belt wearer” are not accurate.

I’ll miss the guy and wish his family the best.

I’m sure the roads in Lincoln were as bad as they were in Omaha (yes UNO was called off). I"m just jealous, very very jealous. UNMC will NEVER call off school (we received an e-mail pretty much saying since the hospital is open so is the school).

(I also have no room to talk since I have been dependent on a friend to drive me to and fro school)
