I had lunch with my father at the brand-spankin'-new Cheesesteak Grille at 16th and Old Cheney, in the former Mi Guadalajara location. We both had a steak philly with peppers, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, and cheese, plus fries. The sandwich and fries were both good. I grabbed a couple photos:
They're obviously just getting up and running -- walls are a bare, freshly-painted white, for example -- but I admire that they've chosen to offer basically one item. Too many start-ups try to please everyone. One piece of advice I will offer them: don't be so stingy with the fries. Oh, and I would really love it if they could offer something other than a bulky styrofoam container for diners who aren't taking the food to go. I know reusable plates will increase their dishwashing budget, but I'm pretty sure I actually heard Mother Nature whimper when they handed me my food.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
That sammich looks tasty - and my first comment was going to be, “what happened to all the fries.” I hate when places do that. The big question - did they serve Coke or Pepsi? (I’m going out on a limb and guessing Pepsi.)
It’s a Pepsi joint. Which is fine by me, cuz I’m a yellow pop guy and Coke places almost never carry Mello Yello, but Pepsi places always have Mountain Dew.
While I’m sure it tasted good, if heartburn could manifest itself in physical form, it would look a lot like that sandwich.
Onion and Peppers and Grease, Oh My!
Onion and Peppers and Grease, Oh My!
That’s nothing. Did you ever have one of George’s Ultimate Big Ass Burritos? Now THAT was heartburn on a plate!
RIP George :-(
Wow, that is a really sorry side of fries…It’s a long way from my office downtown, but I’ll try to get down there soon.
So that’s a “before” picture of the fries too? I’d just assumed you started eating your fries before digging in to the sandwich.
And honestly, it’s kind of a small sandwich, unless that’s a jumbo sized styrofoam container.
Is it the peggler meat puck every place uses or some freshly sliced thin beef?
Looks like a tasty $5 meal!
where’s the cheese? this is a cheese-steak right?! ugh.
The cheese was pretty well melted and intermingled with the meat by the time I took this picture. Either they put the cheese on the bottom (likely) or they had mixed it up with the meat before putting both on the bread (less likely).
We went there Saturday for lunch. It was easily the best TASTING Cheesesteak in Lincoln (remember competition is limited). We had more fries but the sandwiches are a little small for what you pay. The trick they do with the cheese follows:
stack up pile of meat, peppers and onions on grill, add any extras, flip twice, then place cheese on top of pile, place bun over cheese and flip all into styrofoam.
In this economy they’ll either need to increase the portion size or decrease the price.
I thought the sandwich was a little small too, but for the price it was a great meal. Good cheesesteak sandwich, fresh bread, really good fries and a huge soda. I think they’ve got a winning combination.
I heard the cashier say they have good lunch business but are a little slow at night. Not a huge surprise.
Talk about fast service too!
I’ll go back in a artery-clogged heartbeat.
