Long Shot

By: Mr. Wilson on October 12, 2006
We are about a month away from election day. The polls say Ben leads Pete 55% to 32%. Does Pete have a shot, or is he dead in the water? If Pete is out of contention, does that mean Ben is unbeatable, or has the GOP just not found the right opponent yet? Discuss. (In other news, the Guv leads David Hahn 72% to 18%. Yeouch.)

Definitely more the latter than the former. Sure, Ben can coast on the momentum any incumbent has, but I just can’t believe that Ricketts - or for that matter his campaign strategists - are the best that the Repubs can field.

The way I look at it, the Ricketts’ campaign may be a case study in which a candidate’s wealth was both what got him a nomination and also clipped him at the kneecaps from the very start. He saturated the airwaves with mediocre and fluffy commercials in the beginning to such an extent that a lot of people wrote him off early.

In hindsight, of the 3 party candidates, there was no way Stenberg would have made it, but that other dude (the younger guy with the international experience) would probably have had a better chance at the Benator than Ricketts does (had he had more money and national party support and a campaign manager who realized that dressing rich guys up in jeans won’t cut it). Just my 2 centavos.

Pete is done; his negatives are way too high.  His early ads were a little sickening, even for someone like me, who they were more than likely directed towards.  They were cookie-cutter rural American political candidate ads.  I think he’s a good guy, but his campaign hasn’t been run well enough to defeat a well-liked incumbent.  I will vote for him, but my vote is one for Republicans maintaining control in the Senate.  If Johanns wasn’t Secretary of Agriculture, you’d be looking at Republicans picking up a seat here and finally cleansing ourself of our only national Democrat. 😊

Oh, and the governor race is hilarious.  So should be the 1st congressional district race.  Are Maxine Moul and Colleen Seng sisters?

I am so glad I do not watch netwotk TV.  I have not seen any of them commercials, well one for BN, but not the cartoon one I hear about.

My favorite thing about ricketts (well besides being a disease) is how Johans, Cheney, and Rove all kept saying how a vote for Ricketts was important to keep the republican control, not that Ricketts was a good person for Nebraska.

The American/Nebraska/traditional values crap is such complete BS.  We know exactly what we would of gotten from Ricketts, a ruber stamp for the republican party not someone who would really care about making a change.

person not the party.  Gosh darn we need good people in there, and well ain’t seem to be much of them around.
