Local Business News

By: Mr. Wilson on March 20, 2008
I just recently discovered Matt Olberding's Biz Buzz blog over at the LJS. Looks like it's going to be a good blog to keep an eye on. For example: Kohl's is coming to 27th and Yankee Hill. That's big news for southsiders like my mother who would willingly drive across town to the current location (84th and O) in an ice storm if it meant catching a good sale. Also, Matt is reporting that a new tenant on Southpointe's east side will require moving some current tenants, including Office Max. Why in the world would Office Max be willing to move? Presumably, the new tenant is a biggie. A commenter on Matt's blog suggests it could be south Lincoln's long-awaited Best Buy. That would be huge news. Unfortunately, all that new retail activity, though good for neighboring businesses, could be a disaster for traffic in the area.

Taco Bueno is closing their downtown location.

Figured that would be on his blog.

I think they’d still be open if they had a drive-thru window.

Also, can anyone confirm that the O St. Subway is now open in the former Taco Del Mar space?

I think Taco Bueno already is closed.

As for Subway, I walked by the other day and it is still not open, but seems very close to opening. I heard that Jimmy Johns is taking over where the current subway is. Any truth to that?

I can do another walk by today or tomorrow to confirm.

And another one for your downtown restaurant post-mortem: Manila Bay is closed too. Seems like downtown has reached a plateau of some sort for eating establishments sans alcohol.

ouch

Speaking of alcohol.  Did 9 south chargrill get their liquor license yet?  My Mom knows someone connected to that place and mentioned that an area in south Lincoln was wanting them to open up another location.  Will see if I can get some more info.

Mr. W., I agree about the LJS blog - that’s the one I referenced in another post about loving. That person that speculated Best Buy was me.

I think they need another location. If not there, I’d love to see them go into some of the old Kmart at 56th and Highway 2.

They’re not going to Kmart building; developer already tried. I wouldn’t doubt that they are going to the other location, though. Best Buy is planning dozens of smaller-format stores, and such a thing would fit nicely out by SouthPointe.
