I see the new Kohl's opened this week at the intersection of 27th and Way-the-Hell-Down-South. Next thing you know there'll be a row of big boxes on Saltillo Road. But I digress. My mother and several other people I know spend lots of time (and money) at Kohl's. I have only been inside a Kohl's a couple times, and in those visits I've failed to see what the excitement is all about. Maybe it's a gender thing; are any of you guys out there Kohl's fans?
In other big box news, the new Wal-Mart on north 84th Street appears to be approaching completion. I haven't seen any date announcements, but one day I did notice they appeared to be having an employee meeting or training session.

I’ve never been in a Kohl’s.
I thinks Kohl’s sucks. It could be a gender thing. My wife likes to shop there. She doesn’t enjoy the experience, but she goes.
As a fan of retail, I think they suck. I hate that they cram the aisles so full of garbage that you can’t get through. It reminds me of the old “action aisle” concept from the 1/2 Price Store at 48th and Van Dorn, which was awful.
At Kohl’s, it always seems messy. I’ve never had a lot of help from the staff, and it seems to me that it takes forever to check out. It’s a store I will get drawn into somewhat often due to their ads, but 9 times out of 10, I walk away empty-handed and asking myself why I even bothered.
I like Kohl’s and I’m a guy. It helps having a Kohl’s card and getting 30% off anything every once in a while, which makes for some great deals here and there.
I don’t care for the aisle clutter either, and I also walk out empty handed 2/3 times I visit, but I’ve walked out with some screamin’ good deals over the years.
I will often times leave without anything, but I too have had some great deals when I find a good deal. The crowdedness hasn’t bothered me either, surprisingly since I’m known to have an above average “comfort zone”.
I’m just up the street from the new one, so it’s all good. Sure hope something “different” goes in some of the new retail stores under construction out there.
Another guy who likes Kohls. High quality clothes at sometime great prices. Like very nice $65 pants on sale for $18. $45 shirts for $15. Decent customer service too - never a problem returning stuff. Very sparse staff sometimes backs up customers at the register.
I bought three nice dress shirts there for $40 today. Not too shabby. I’m not a groupie or anything, but I think it’s just fine.
I’m a Kohl’s guy, although I refuse to shop for shoes there. Years ago I fell for their advertised flyer on shoes only to find that they, apparently stocked only odd sizes.
I learned to save myself the frustration and buy my shoes elsewhere. I often find great deals on casual work clothes.
I should point out, however, that I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes and would never be accused of being very fashionable. FWIW.
I buy most of my clothes at Kohl’s. The deals are great, especially - as indicated by Christopher - if you are a card member. I’ve also bought several pairs of shoes and sandals there as well. I can’t think of a better place for discount brand names in town.
...that the new Kohl’s was supposed to be a Macy’s before Macy’s pulled out. Had anyone else heard that?
I hadn’t heard that. A couple of years ago, the rumor was that it was going to be a Crate and Barrel or something of that ilk.
I hadn’t heard that. The first I heard anything about the project—around the time the first dirt was turned, I believe—the rumor was that it would be a Kohl’s. It probably would’ve been a good spot for a Macy’s.
You’re breakin’ my heart. Macy’s has an excellent dress selection, but I’m always scared to buy online without trying them on first. I would’ve loved to have Macy’s here.
