Lincoln's Updowntowners has been renamed GOLincolnGO. Their slogan: Go live. Go connect. Go Play. They made the announcement yesterday.
I can't say I'm a big fan of the new branding. The name is OK -- but for an event or a campaign, not an organization. As an organization name it feels contrived. Which it is, of course. The name Updowntowners was around for 26 years. I can't see GOLincolnGO sticking around nearly that long.
The new branding certainly is more vibrant and evocative than the old, so that's a plus. It also doesn't tie the organization to Downtown any more. And for this former trumpet player, any organization that uses a trumpet in its logo earns bonus points from me.
What do you think of the new name and branding? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
UPDATE: Crud, I totally ruined it for myself. I was standing in the kitchen making breakfast when my brain -- through no conscious effort -- thought: "GOLincolnGO kind of sounds like some sort of city-wide urinary incontinence campaign. Or maybe a portable toilet company." Thanks, brain. Thanks a lot.

It makes me think of “Go Do Go”

I think it’s kind of silly and trendy and won’t last for a quarter century (as you stated). But it doesn’t really make me give it a strong thumbs up or down. I’m indifferent.
Makes it sound like this club meets inside strip clubs.
Now that I’ve thought more about it, aside from it being a so-so name, the usage of all CAPS for GO and GO and no punctuation just looks stupid.
It strikes me as a bunch of adults trying to be hip and cool and appeal to a younger crowd (and said crowd will respond with complete indifference). It’s sort of like when the dolts at WOWT try to use hip slang and send news to you via texting, just to be like the cool kids. As if a 14 or 15-year old will suddenly figure out how hip Channel 6 is. Let’s party with John Knicely! Woo hoo!
I almost think it’s the use of GO twice that makes it so bad. I could see something like golincoln.com or lincolngo.com.
But then I start thinking of goDaddy.com. Maybe we can get trashy women to help promote our city during the Super Bowl!!!
Wow, that is really stupid.
Yikes - You guys are harsh! It doesn’t matter to me much either way, but I’ll probably still call them “Updowntowners” so people know who I’m talking about.
@JT - It made me think of “Go Diego Go”

This just sounds lame. At least the “Updowntowners” was original. This just sounds silly…kind of makes you wonder how the brainstorming session went. Really…guys…is this the best we got? Isn’t there a rule that you can not use the same word twice in a sentence? I also agree with Buff…just the single go sounds so much better.
But whatever…they are still a stand up bunch and deserve our support. Our opinion probably does not mean a hill of beans to them anyhow.
