After a year out of commission, Harris Overpass will reopen on Friday to a full four lanes of traffic. That's just over one month ahead of schedule, which means the contractor will see a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of incentive payments.
A question for those of you who were most affected by the bridge's closure: Was the closure as bad as, better than, or about the same as you thought it would be?

I don’t usually consider myself a whiner, but that construction really honked me off for a while as I tried to get around the Haymarket. For the first few weeks, I kept forgetting about it & drove right into the construction zones. Grr. I guess I can’t blame the city for my own idiocy.
Oh well, I’m glad it’s over & I especially like that it’s pigeon-proofed on the bottom so birds won’t poop on my car when I park there.
Since I can see it from my house and could feel it when they pounded in the supports I must say I will be glad to see it reopen. Mostly so people stop taking the J street shortcut. It was our shortcut till everyone started using it.
I will only use the new bridge when there is a train blocking my shortcut though. I bet the biz’s on west O will be happy.
I usually ride my bike to Husker baseball games and having to detour around a closed 8th street was pretty annoying. But I’m glad they got it done early, good work construction crews!
This is definitely good news! I use that J street shortcut through the industrial zone too, but will change to O st. after the overpass is completed.
