I saw this morning (via Jeff Korbelik) that Cherry On Top's Haymarket location has opened. It's next to Scooters on 8th Street.
I've long wondered why there aren't more dessert options in the Haymarket. Ivanna Cone has been the dominant player for ages. Sure you can pick up some chocolate cake at Lazlo's, or maybe a cookie from The Mill. But for most people Ivanna Cone was the obvious choice. For good reason, of course; Ivanna Cone is awesome. That doesn't mean that there isn't room for other choices. So ... welcome Cherry On Top!
I still haven't tried Cherry On Top or its long lost twin, Red Mango. The folks I've talked to seem to think they can be pricey, but that hasn't stopped them from going. How do you like them?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
We have been going on bike dates where we eat some appetizers somewhere, ride some more, and then hit up sweet treats before heading home. We saw COT was open, but still decided to wait for some IC. The local aspect and fun flavors make it an easy choice.
I’ve tried them both. I like them. You pay by the ounce, so if you really over-indulge, it will get pricey. I have found a flavor I like at Cherry on Top, but it was a little inconsistent the last time.
Yeah, COT is not cheap. We go once every few months as I can’t justify paying $26 (the last visit) for ice cream.
And other food news. The Egg & I are set to open up in the old Blockbuster building on 16th and Q on September 12 and there is some kind of renovation going on next door to 5 Brothers. Anyone know what is going in there?
5 brothers? Do you mean 5 Guys Burgers on P Street? If so, there’s a Toppers Pizza place going where Sur Tango used to be. You can check out the menu at toppers.com. I think this will be their first Nebraska location.

Yeah, 5 Guys.. 5 Brothers… kinda the same 😉
I’ve been to COT, Red Mango, and Ivanna Cone. Ivanna Cone is by far the best. The FroYo at both of those shops has a bite to it that I just don’t like and for the price of taking my family of 4 I could buy 10 gallons of ice cream from the store. Not worth the price for the taste.
Is COT and Red Mango really that much higher priced than Ivanna? Ivanna Cone is excellent, but it ain’t exactly bargain ice cream.
Ivanna Cone is mucho expensivo. (Apologies to my high school Spanish teachers.) If COT and RM are even pricier than that ... yikes!
Bike dates with appetizers and dessert? Heck yeah!! I am making my fiance’ do this!
Last friday we rode to Van Dorn park for a picnic and then Zesto’s. Fun times.
My family of four got out of Cherry on Top for about $18 the first time, and $14 the second time now that we are wiser about what we want and what toppings actually work. There are toppings that look good - especially to kids, but aren’t really tasty in reality.
Oh, I’m not disputing that Ivanna Cone is probably just as expensive but for the money I would rather have stop at Ivanna Cone than either FroYo place.
