Lincoln's own Roger Yant isn't stopping his fight to keep the State Fair in Lincoln, this time arguing that the move to Grand Island is unconstitutional. He says 2004's Amendment 4 requires the State Fair to remain in Lincoln. I think Yant's odds are pretty slim, and hopefully he knows that. But hey, you never know.
The question I have for you is this: Is Roger Yant a fool for continuing to press this issue, or is he an under-appreciated would-be savior whom all Lincolnites should celebrate?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
Maybe he’s both. He’s a fool in many respects, but we should celebrate that he tries to raise awareness of a lot of issues that Lincolnites ignore. He’s “out there” compared to most, but I respect that these things burn deeply in him, and he at least tries to do something. It’s offbeat, but better than just bitching and moaning.
I would like to run an experiment. Make a list of everything Roger Yant has done for the State Fair. Gather some people together, tell half of them that Roger Yant did it, and tell the other half that Ernie Chambers did it (if you could also split the editorial boards of the LJS and OWH into two, then even better). Shouldn’t be too hard, you only need 46 people to draw ground-breaking conclusions. I think the reactions given by the two groups would be pretty distinct.
I say Fool. The benefits of the move far out way the negatives in the long run. But that is just my opinion he is entitled to his own.
Strange. I just read that amendment and there in no mention of Lincoln or the Fair Grounds. Just the State Fair Board.
I can’t wait till the conservative rag (LJS) prints his letter to the editor about this.
Warning to GI: I was very disappointed with my spiral spuds at this last fair. They were not crisp.
For others who are interested, here is the text of the amendment. Of particular note is this verbiage:
To me, that sounds explicitly non-specific about the Fair’s location.
I applaud Yant for acting for what he believes in, but I really really don’t care at all about the State Fair so it’s fine with me if it moves west.
I would totally concur.
