Lincoln Racquet Club has been a Lincoln institution for a couple decades, but I'm beginning to wonder if it will be able to make it much longer. Old ideas pushed by an aging owner aren't helping the club keep in step with the rest of Lincoln's competitive fitness market.
Most people will point to the fact that LRC isn't open on Saturdays (more specifically, the Seventh Day Adventist sabbath) as the most obvious reason for LRC's troubles. I think that's only part of the story. After all, Racquet Club survived this long being open only 6 days a week. The problem is more likely not compensating for that shortcoming with sufficient excellence and innovation in other areas.
What is your impression of Lincoln Racquet Club? Are there any Racquet Club members out there? What's your sense of LRC's present and future?

When I lived in Lincoln, I was close to joining LRC. Its pretty cheap when it comes to workout facilities. But their facilities were a bit run down and its really tucked in behind things there at 27th & O. You can’t really see it or find it unless you’re actually looking for it.
I think you’re thinking of Sports Courts, which is at 44th and O. Racquet Club is near 56th and Old Cheney.
I clearly have been away from Lincoln too long.
Yes, you most certainly have. We’ll get you back one of these days. Maybe Bo has an opening on his media relations staff.
I’ve never considered joining LRC. Its location doesn’t suit me and Saturday is probably my most important work out day. I never understood how a gym could stay in business with being closed on Saturday, but if they’ve been able to do it this long, power to them. With all the little little ‘gyms-to-go’ that are popping up around town, I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of the Lincoln staples are casualties.
My brothers wife teaches yoga out there and the Y I think. I guess the child care facility is nice.
When I was shopping around for a new gym earlier this year, the Saturday closing was the single factor that made me look elsewhere. Its an important work out day for many people. I didn’t know that it was closed that day for religions reasons - which is fine with me - but regardless I imagine it still drives a lot of potential customers away.
Now that I remember which place is the Racquet Club…I remember checking out their prices. I thought they were really really high.
