Somebody mentioned in a comment not long ago that he or she had not yet turned on the air conditioning at home. That made me wonder just how many of you have avoided the A/C so far this year. I don't remember when we caved, but it was a while back. Since that time we've gone off and on. We usually keep ours set at 79.
How many of you have held strong? Is it more because you have a very cool house, or because you have a very high tolerance for heat?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
I caved around the 2nd day it hit close to 90. I have a 2-story house, and the upstairs just got too hot for sleeping by late in the day. It also helped my late May allergies. It’s run off and on since then, but has remained off for a couple days now. I try to hold out best I can.
Ahh ... a summer thermostat at 79. Those were the days, then I got married. Now, 79 is considered a sweat shop.
My husband and I turned ours on for a party last Saturday (we didn’t want our guests to be too hot) but that’s the only time we’ve had it on. We generally leave it set at 80 and use ceiling fans/open windows in the morning and evening.
Been sticking with the ceiling fans and windows so far. I’m afraid ours is on it’s last legs anyway…
Similar to MattF, I say a little prayer and sacrifice things to the A/C gods each summer and hope we get through another year. I had to break this weekend when we had company over. Otherwise, I’ve been down in the basement until it gets cool enough at night to come up and go to bed.
Same here. We had guests over this past weekend, so we wanted to keep it nice and cool for them.
Oh wait…I turned it on for a little while after I mowed Monday.
Other than that it’s been fans and open windows.
We’ve had it on a few times, but I’m not going to complain that it’s warm outside. It was pretty cool not very long ago.
My wife occasionally works nights so when she has to sleep during the day we have to click it on. Otherwise I think we had it on during one of the extra warm nights.
I make up for it in the winter by having the thermostat set on 55 (moral justification and rationalization) but we have had ours set on 72 and running for weeks.
