My first thought when I saw this headline -- "Pelini has serious mien this season" -- was: What is that, some kind of mange?!
I suspect somebody at the LJS was playing Scrabble at work yesterday. Or spending too much time on reference.com.

I noticed that too. “Mien” was a new one on me. I thought the idea with newspapers was to make content easy to read.
