How’s That for a Prediction?

Yesterday I said the drag strip proposed for north of Lincoln was all but dead. Today, it is.

It kind of seemed to me that the LJS was against it from the beginning. That’s not ever a good sign. I think it would have been cool and brought some more dollars flowing into the city, but we don’t need that now, do we?

I love how the zoning for the project was in phase while the application was already filed. Its like trying to hit a moving target. I don’t follow racing, but I see the money it brings in to other places, and ‘trailer trash’ and the like are certainly in the minority when it comes to who will be spending the money in Lincoln. Stack a race day up with a concert and the hypothetical events center-gee why didn’t anyone think of that?

I’m sure the UNL engineering students don’t need anywhere to tinker on stuff, or the chem and biochem departments (alt. fuels, maybe). The biggest detractors to this always come back to “well, if he just built it somewhere else…..”. Wasn’t this done to death in the two site survey studies? The Airport was ruled out because of regulatory and ownership issues, and ultimately the point is that GS already OWNS the land he was trying to build on. With land in the blight of West O suddenly going for millions, I would’nt want to build there either.
