Guilty

Again, I humbly apologize to my constituents, colleagues, and family. Immediately after my accident, I sought an alcohol evaluation. I have completed all the steps that were recommended and I am thankful to be in recovery. I sincerely thank my colleagues and members of the public for their letters and phone calls of support as I have continued to deal with these difficult personal issues in a straightforward manner. I take full responsibility for my behavior. I continue to work very hard each and every day on issues affecting working families in North Lincoln. I pledge to utilize my position as a state senator to advocate on behalf of others who face substance abuse problems and will work to ensure that all Nebraskans have opportunities for prevention and treatment services available.

Her statement makes me gag. But hey, she completed all the recommended steps to recover so, as the Lincoln Journal Star proclaims, case closed!
Second offense minimum sentences, from the DMV web site:
Mandatory Minimum: 30 days in jail, 1-year license revocation, $500 fine
If Probation: 10 days in jail or not less than 240 hours of community service, 1-year license revocation, $500 fine
I would personally consider having my license for 10 months more than I was entitled to, worth a lot more than $500 extra fine. Regarding the mere two-month revocation… What gives?

Actually, Sarah, she pleaded guilty to first offense DUI. City attorneys opted to lower the charge as part of a plea agreement.
Oh, right! I read that (and will opt to not get started on my opinion of the inconsistent consequences dished out by the courts).
