Good Morning Mr. and Mrs. .0004%

Lincoln has crossed the quarter million barrier. Woohoo! or Boo! depending on your perspective. I suspected this milestone was coming up soon, so a few weeks back I started to blog about it. Unfortunately I jumped the gun; the relevant data was just released Wednesday by the Census Bureau. Does Lincoln feel like a community of a quarter million? Are we still a small town trapped in a "big" city's growing body?

a quarter million still feels small to me. 😊

Lincoln at .25 million: a city that, depending on when it’s convenient, alternates between deluding itself that it should be just like Omaha (but somehow avoiding having any “big city” problems) or clinging to the notion that it’s just an overgrown version of the rural Nebraska town we or our parents moved here from.

Speaking of cities with Census-related identity crises: Omaha will likely be larger than Kansas City, MO in the next few years; be sure to read the comments.
