You may remember that earlier this spring I complained about the new bioswales and woodchipped areas in the refurbished College View section of South 48th Street. The plantings were a horrible, ugly sight. The bioswales were little more than weedy ditches. The woodchipped areas were quickly covered in weeds which were subsequently killed with heavy doses of poison. The effect was uninspiring.
Last week workers began sprucing up the area again. Let's hope they get it right this time. College View's business district is a nice little area. It was a shame to see it appear so incomplete all summer.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
It’s hard to get much greenery established in the middle of summer.
True, except initial work began last fall and was continued this spring. Spring is typically an excellent time to establish plants ... and weeds.
Does anyone know if they are closing the intersection to the right of 48th and Pioneer, or if they are closing the entire intersection of 48th itself?
My understanding is that the entire intersection is closing for a month or two. Unfortunately they aren’t converting it to a roundabout as was my hope. It seems like it would be a great candidate for one.
Id be fine with that. My concern now is how to get my girls to Calvert, my son to Pound, and get to work by 0830, if they close that intersection down. Yikes.
thanks for responding-it saved me from spelunking for the city dept. traffic map.
Where is work? Both Pound and Calvert are on 46th Street so there’s your connector. It can get a little clogged north of Pioneers thanks to its narrowness so maybe you’ll want 47th instead.
I’m so glad we don’t have to take our oldest foster son all the way out to Huntington any more. All this roadwork would make that trip a nightmare.
I work near Lincoln SW. 46th is closed at Pioneer (at least it was yesterday) due to the work on Pioneer. I was taking LaSalle over, dropping T off, then shooting up 46th or 47th, then using the Prescott light to get back onto 48th-Calvert has a ‘traffic plan’ and it goes N to S on 46th one way to try to help keep things moving there.
Solution: Drop both kids off at 45th and Pioneers. Wish them luck. Go to work.
😊
*lol* Its been considered but my wife isn’t on board yet.
