I have really had enough of this Time Warner cable television talk -- the latest news is that the Cable Television Advisory Board wants to study how to bring competition to town -- but it got me thinking about competition in the internet access arena. Most people think the only two high-speed internet access options are DSL through Windstream and cable through Time Warner. But there is at least one other company that offers both: Internet Nebraska. As I understand it, Internet Nebraska basically resells services offered by Windstream and Time Warner, but for a cheaper price. The downside, from what I hear, is that customer service can be a pain because you essentially have to work through two companies instead of just one.
Have any of you used Internet Nebraska's internet services? What was your experience?
I have always wanted to give them a try, but honestly, one thing more than any other has caused me to hold back: their website. It is outdated in all sorts of ways, and it has been outdated for years. The content seems reasonably current, but the design and communications methods scream 1998. A company that does its business on the internet should "get" the web better than that.

I have used them for over a year for my Cable internet service. No problems other than any issue goes through two hands, Ineb and TW. Ineb is always on the ball, TW looks at an entry on their screen and will not deviate from “But the database says your connection speed is….” I know what the DB says, but when I have tested it on two computers, wired and wireless,locally and remotely, with and without firewalls and routers, and Ineb has verified that, its time to step out of the box a bit and maybe not believe what your screen says.
Ineb is a local company. I interviewed there a few years ago for a PT position in their TS dept. Its the epitome of what ISPs used to be in the 80’s in feel-they write many of their own tools, everyone knows each others jobs, its workforce (at least in Lincoln) is small, is younger, and steeped in internet experience and knowledge of its ins and outs and its technologies. Recently I was discussing newsgroup access with them and setting up a particular program-try explaining Usenet to a TW tech support person. Their email responses are helpful and prompt, they call on occasion in response to an email just to see if the issue is still an issue. That their webpage is dated tells me that they spend their time working on their stuff and resolving issues, not glitzy marketing. They don’t have call time queues-they stay on the phone until its fixed.
All in all I love them and will stay with them for sometime to come.
I think Husker Axcess (or whatever quaint way they spell it) is another local option for high-speed needs at lower prices.
Ive used them in the past as well. The service was stable, but their website has always looked cheesy from trying to be too much. Under Husker Axcess’s services link I get:
