Essential Training

By: Mr. Wilson on October 16, 2006
Don't try to renew your driver's license this week. All DMV offices are closed until Friday for "essential training in fraud detection, computer use and customer service". Here's a hint that the DMV might need a little work on customer service: their website doesn't contain any information about the closures.

Not surprising that they skipped the web - most state agencies can’t get past the ‘brochure’ mindset. The web publishes immediately (well, discounting cached pages) and those agencies and others need to realize that.

well my lifepartner works for NIC the peeps who make most of the nebraska websites.  She deals with the DMV website and said.  We do the behind the scenes work with databases and stuff.  The main site is their job.

So she is clear 😉

I wouldn’t put this on the people who do the technical work - the impetus for making the best use of the web needs to come from the department leadership. I’d like to give an example of what I would consider a good use along these lines, but - no slam and no joke - I really can’t think of one right now. I will continue to look and will post again when I find one. Maybe I’m only focusing on the bad ones because they catch my attention. We’ll see.
