Last year Lincoln broke a 34 year-old record for most drunk driving arrests in a year. Now, Tom Casady says we're on pace to break the record again, with DUI arrests sitting at 10% higher than last year's numbers. My question: Why all the drunk driving?
Is drinking inversely correlated with economic health? Have we gotten lazy about assigning designated drivers? Are police getting smarter about impaired driver identification?
I'm really curious why we're seeing such a spike in DUI arrests. Any guesses?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
That lady from the front page of yesterday’s LJS is skewing the statistics.
I was about to say. Did you notice how that lady was sentenced several times to the clink for relatively long periods of up to a year, but then got caught again a few months later? In other words, she never served those sentences or was released early. And now she’s out on bail already. Why didn’t they just hand her a six-pack on the way out of the courthouse too?
They need to get serious with serial drunk drivers like her. We’ve all known people who have been killed by drunk drivers or who have killed themselves drunk driving. I’ve known several, and I don’t have a lot of tolerance for drunk drivers.
I don’t know if there is any one trending factor to call out for drunk driving itself. Certainly for arrests you can point to differences in enforcement tactics.
Didn’t the LPD receive some grant funding for DUI enforcement?
Ride a bike 😛
Although I cracked a laptop screen, tacoed a tire, and got some scrapes and bruises, but I still have a clean record and cheap insurance 😊
I also think if you look at the mugshots from oldest to newest, the drinking has made her get fatter.
