In case you missed the news, here's the latest: KOLN (10/11) will begin their digital broadcast on Wednesday Tuesday. Despite their desire to join KOLN, KLKN (Channel 8) will not switch until June 12 thanks to Federal decisions designed to confuse and confound as much as possible.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
Switching to WHAT? Has this been in the news at all?
😉
Gene, you are the bane of my existence. *shakes fist*
LOL. I was just about to warn Gene that saying that sort of thing—even in jest—too near anyone who works in the broadcast industry would likely result in a serious maiming.
According to the crawler on KOLN’s Web site, they’re turning off their analog signal today at 11:50 a.m.
We’re both wrong. It’s 11:50 p.m. tonight, which is effectively Tuesday.
Sure would be nice if I could read a calendar.
This is true, thanks to another “Federal decision designed to confuse and confound as much as possible”. (haha)
It has been moved back a few hours from the 2/17 10am switch. So now, most people will be sleeping when the actual switchover occurs.
I am happy for 10/11 being able to make the switch, but I would be ticked off if I was KLKN and was told that no, I now have to wait until June.
I have no sympathy for people who have waited until now to do something. And, if they haven’t gotten their crap together by today, do we really think they will by June? Good lord, this date has already been extended, and every station has been running commercials and crawlers about it for a year or more.
I won’t tell you my personal feelings about the federal decision, BUT I will say - if you see a television broadcaster, please hug them. No matter which date they’re switching, they’ve had a busy week!
Soon as I find him, Rod Fowler’s getting a hug from me. If I get arrested, I’m calling YOU with my one phone call Nikkidemas!
I’ve seen him eating at Lina’s. That might be a good place to start your search (and get a tasty torta to boot!).
At this rate, I’d be fine with “sure would be nice if I could read, period”. 😉
That would make sense that he’d eat there. It seems KLKN staff have an aversion to going far to get a story, so why would they go far to get a meal.
Every time there’s bad weather, we (wife and I) eagerly anticipate the “live” report from 10th and Arapahoe, or maybe they drive that whole block to the Super C location. Mix it up, people!
That’s what Tower Cam Eight is for.
the first time I saw one of the advertisements or whatever talking about the switch I remember thinking, damn, that’s so far off, why do they need to do this so far in advance.
I can’t believe it took people this long to get switched.
That’s funny Fletch! I am always cracking up at the stock footage of cars/traffic that was clearly shot from the Channel 8 parking lot. Some of it has run over and over and over…
I kid, because I care.
Now that I think about it, Denise Pelster would be a much better hug recipient than Rod Fowler.
I for one applaud 10/11 for making the switch. Be damned what the federal government says. The percentage of people not ready in Lincoln is probably so insignificant, that the amount of viewers would do nothing to one stations ratings. The first time someone complaining would probably come when state basketball and the NCAA tournament rolls around. NET will be going all digital on the 17th, so I could see someone in rural nebraska not being able to watch Jimmy Joe in the state finals. But once they can’t get CSI, they’ll switch quickly.
WOWT is making the switch tomorrow as well…those who miss The Biggest Loser will be looking for a digital tuner tomorrow.
I applaud them as well. I would applaud KLKN, for trying to do so as well. The gov’t told them no, which I don’t see as a fault of their own.
Now that the transition has come and gone, and Nikki and her friends are all well rested, when can we get to the root of these FOX10/11 rumors? 😉
Wait, the federal govt. told Channel 8 they couldn’t switch? WHY?!
The FCC didn’t want all stations in a given market to make the switch at the same time. Their reasoning was that if there were an emergency, the four boneheads who are still completely ignorant of the dtv switch wouldn’t have any way to access information. Apparently the FCC forgot about that other medium it has jurisdiction over: radio.
