Didn’t I See Construction?

The Lincoln City Council unanimously approved the designation of two parcels of land at 48th and O streets as surplus, continuing to pave the way for a CVS Pharmacy and Staples to grace the intersection.I think the LJS is in error, conflating the status of CVS (still in the air) with that of Staples (a done deal). But this whole 48th and O situation has been such a muddled mess I could be the one who is wrong. Can anybody with knowledge of the area confirm that construction of Staples is already under way?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
There is indeed construction of something. It seemed too small for Staples, but size can be deceiving when in progress, I suppose.
Agreed. It does look rather small. Perhaps they’re testing a pilot store, say Staples Express (tm) where they sell only staples. 😊
As the Journal Star has been reporting for more than a year now, that is a Staples, and it is a regular-sized store (they are only about 18,000 square feet). I think the confusion may be that the city is selling two parcels of land, but they are both for CVS. However, the city continues to claim credit for bringing Staples to the corner, when, in reality, all they did was compromise to keep the already-sealed deal from falling through.
The city should stop laying claim to any of this mess. They’ve cost us a fortune and delayed development for years. Why brag?
Office supplies aren’t very big, I guess. 😉
