Where’s Crabby Bill’s?

Crabby Bill’s is in the former Arturo’s location.

From the fall Dining Guide out recently in the Journal Star, Magnolia’s looks like it’s positioning itself as a pretty high-end, fine-dining establishment. Pretty much the same crowd JTK is chasing, I think. Not sure there’s room for both. But haven’t been to either. And neither is probably high on our list to git to, just because we’re pretty rarely fine-diners.

Crabby Bill’s is only open on the evenings, so I probably won’t get there.

Planning to try Magnolia’s in a couple of weeks.

JTK: Got a real snooty waiter when I was there and haven’t been back. But I see they are no longer open for lunch, so I doubt I’ll try it again. I would have gone back for lunch though.

Went to Pastabilities a month ago or so. It’s in the basement dance club called The Hurricane, or something like that. It’s right by Maggie’s Wraps. It used to be a bar called The Dugout.

It was affordable and pretty good. Place smelled like a fraternity basement and everything was served in or on plastic, but that doesn’t bother me.

The Hurricane/Pastabilities closed last weekend.

I’m a newbie poster on Lincolnite.com, but I’ve lurked for awhile.  There’s a lot of great info/opinion/humor here! 

I recently went to Crabby Bill’s.  It was good…a little pricey, and the menu needs to be tweaked, perhaps, with a few more “less expensive” dishes.  The seafood was very good though. The “atmosphere” was pretty cool too.

I’m on the south side of town, and am looking forward to a few new places opening soon.  Sam and Louies Pizza at 14th and Pine Lake, The Peacock at 28th and Pine Lake and I believe there’s a building for another Jimmy Johns at 16th and Pine Lake.  (Believe it or not, I’ve never been to Jimmy Johns.)  I also noticed a new restaurant called Tokyo Steakhouse will be at 27th and Highway 2.  I think it must be in the old Jax location.  It escapes me what sports restaurant was there.  I’m not sure what exactly it will be, but maybe something like ShoGun?

Just a few bits of info I can supply.

Ooh, thanks for the new restaurant tips, net_nut. Especially the Tokyo Steakhouse one. I’ve been a fan of the restaurants in that location (Jax, Bob’s Gridiron Grill), so I’m crossing my fingers for another good one.

Mr. W, I am telling you, the food topics almost get as many postings as the topics about LJS being the greatest or the devil. (I am so PO’d about their censorship yesterday - would have been a good topic). But I digress. The new Jimmy Johns at 33rd and Pioneers lives up to JJ standards, but getting in and out of that parking lot is a major pain, as is the parking. I pity the tenant that goes into the other half of the building.

I had forgotten about Jax.  Used to be a very good place for supper.

Jwiltshire posted a review somewhere of jtk, possibly on his blog. Said it was pretty ok.

We’ve been to Magnolia a couple of times. There are some nice touches—the women get roses by the maitre’d, for example, which adds a touch of class.

For those of you who remember the Brazen Head, the layout of the place is very similar. The wood-and-frosted-glass partitions are back. This is either really good news or really bad news, depending on what type of diner you may be. Some people like to go out to eat and be seen. This happens at a minimum at Magnolia because of the setup.

The menu is pretty diverse, but not overwhelming with choices. I mean that in a good way. It has traditional fare but with some fusion dishes. Both times I’ve been very satisfied with what I ordered. I had what I think was the best Chicken Tortilla soup I’ve ever had during my first visit there.

The wait staff was attentive, almost to a point of being a little clingy. I’m chalking it up to them feeling their way through their first couple of months with an all-new wait staff.  We’ll go back.

We’ve also been over to jtk two or three times. Excellent service, a beautiful looking interior and atmosphere, and a great number of selections. I tried to take a job candidate there earlier in October, but was surprised to find that it was no longer open for lunch.

Crabby Bill’s? Eh. I think I’ll pass. I wish ‘em well, but constant Jimmy Buffett on the speaker system gives me indigestion.

Havent been to Crabby Bills in Lincoln, only in FL.  The MAGNOLIA is exquisite!!!! Food is fabulous!!  Nice portions, and, I believe the wait staff IS newer, except for a few, and are friendly and considerate. WIll be back whenever in Lincoln and recommend this place AAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++ the wait staff by the name of Ashley is SUPER!!
