The Journal Star's Jordan Pascale posted some reactions he has received following Mayor Beutler's State of the City speech. One of them complained about the roads in the Country Meadows neighborhood off 66th and Highway 2. I scoffed. I thought, "What a knucklehead! Those are private roads, not City roads!". I pulled up Google Streetview so I could better see for my own eyes how bad these private roads are.
Oops. That's not a private road, and it is pretty bad. It's not hard to see how living in a neighborhood like that might make a person bitter about how local road money is spent.
(And for the record I had my neighborhoods confused. Pheasant Run, at 66th and Old Cheney, is the neighborhood with the private roads.)

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
There are some bad residential roads on 63rd north of Pershing Elementary. I’m guessing they are paved alleys. There are no curbs and the concrete is cracked.
I have seen some city streets which are still gravel.
Also, we don’t see “knucklehead” used enough any more.
You would enjoy our house. I’m always flinging names like that at my (very deserving) children.
We lived on NW48th Street last year, and that road is a nightmare. The majority of drivers going south drive in the turn lane because the right lane is so crumbled daring to drive on it could cause serious car body damage.

We were excited to be moving to the south side of town, because surely, there isn’t a road over here that causes drivers to drive in the wrong lane to miss bad roads. HA! Our luck, we move off of 56th Street.
“Reconstruction of 56th Street south of Old Cheney Road will have been in the plans for more than 15 years by the time work starts in fall 2014.”
I just read another report that it is not slotted until 2015 now.
But hey… we have an arena!
I won’t argue that there are bad roads all over Lincoln.
But I’d love to know how many people know that their are still some unpaved, white rock city streets in town?
Specifically, look at 55th Street between Sumner and Franklin - we’re talking about a street that is smack in the center of town, and a block off of a main street.
