Catalyst One Expands

By: Mr. Wilson on May 1, 2007
I realize the long-term benefits of Lincoln Synergy Group's newly announced 15-story building at 13th and Q far outweigh any temporary inconveniences. But holy cow, losing Valentino's, Cold Stone, Quizno's, and Chipotle all at once would take a huge chunk out of downtowners' lunch options. Is that a totally petty concern? Yeah, it probably is. What can I say, keeping my stomach happy is important to me. From a different perspective: Lincoln Synergy Group is really serious about this project, aren't they? If they manage to pull this off within five years, we should hold a parade in their honor.

That would be a bummer to loose 3 downtown lunch options.

Valentinos are like cockroaches.  One will crawl through the cracks and emerge.  Campus is too close to not have a downtown location.

I am severely hooked on quiznos though.  I would hope it would relocate near downtown.

Although the cake batter ice cream is good, Ivana’s will always be where I go for frozen treats downtown.

I love living pert near downtown 😊

Noooo! Quizno’s! Chipotles!

(I like coldstone, but can rarely bring myself to pay that much for ice cream)

Surely they can have relocation plans in place by then, right?  I won’t disclose how often I eat at Chipotle, but it’s enough that they know my name and my order.  I will be devastated if they leave downtown.

*thinks out loud*  Hmmmm… Perhaps they’d want to occupy a spot on the ground level of the National Arbor Day Foundation’s building at 12th and P Streets, and be even closer to my office!  😉

Mmmmm… Chipotle.

Worrying about losing fast food restaurants is a waste of time.  They will pop up somewhere else very quickly.  The lure of an extra 30 or so floors of office workers will mean that two or three for every one displaced will return.  The loss of non-chain restaurants like Wasabi and Taste of China are a greater tragedy.

I wouldn’t be too sad to see Val’s go.  I still don’t understand how their pizza passes health inspections.  Cold Stone is alright, but it’s extremely sweet and expensive. Quizno’s has, in my opinion, gone down the tubes since expanding very rapidly nationally.  I’m just as happy going to Jimmy John’s, or Doozy’s.  Now Chipotle: them, I would miss.  But I’m confident they would have a spot inside or outside the new building.  Perhaps they’d even have seating for more than four.

Regardless, it’s going to be awesome watching this construction, for which I have premium skybox seats.

Sure, they’re skybox seats now, but in 18 months or so they’ll be practically subterranean relative to your new neighbor 😊

I just can’t eat chipolte because of the ties to McDonalds.  I know it is pretty decent and fresh ingredients.  but I wonder about the flavor additives and chemical soup being a McDonalds place.

OSO will always get my business even when they put the dam pico on my stuff when I request they leave it off.

True re: the skybox seats.  I will miss the view from here, but it will be pretty cool to have a couple additional ‘skyscrapers’ in Lincoln.

I also enjoy OSO more, but Chipotle is so damn close.  However, if they rip me off on the meat/ingredients tomorrow like they did last week, OSO will be the Wednesday burrito destination when the weather permits.

I lived in Denver for 8+ years and ingested tens of thousands of calories worth of their carnitas burritos at Chipotle #1 & #2. They are the one food item that I am convinced I could never tire of eating. Nothing has made me happier than seeing them spread their food & philosophy across the nation. They are a positive example of the promotion of responsible agriculture and standing up to the corporate farming operations.

For the record, Chipotle is not owned by McDonalds. McDonalds did become the largest investor when Chipotle went public, however they have now completely divested ownership of Chipotle stock, leaving them with no ties to the company.

ahhh nice to know.  I did hear that McD’s was getting out of chipolte.  It was sad to see the McD’s truck parked on Q st unloading their stuff when they first opened.

Plus when I ate there it seemed like darn fresh, tasty, and non tainted grub.  But the chipolte crema and chum taco’s at OSO is just too good.  I have yet to try the other chum taco place either (del sol taco?)I like supporting local when I can, but variety is good as well.

Am I alone in never having liked taste of china much? I liked their soup, but other than that, meh. I’m glad wasabi’s still downtown for now.

I find it hard to believe there is so much demand for office space, lodging and housing.  I hope this project is incredibly successful for the Lincoln Synergy Group but I still haven’t been convinced there is a need.

Then again, when I first moved here I thought Home Real Estate was crazy to build an office space near 27th and Pine Lake Road where there was nothing going on.  Look who’s eating there words now.
