Would anyone care to share positive personal experiences with auto repair shops here in Lincoln? Much to the delight of people who know me and have ridden in or seen my car, it (a 13 year old Mercury) is currently suffering from a battery of problems: vapor lock, failing power locks and windows, a yet to be identified transmission issue, and a number of electrical issues that have pretty much killed most of the car’s bells and whistles. Plus it looks pretty dumpy after being through a few dings.
In the past few years, I have had direct experiences with three shops in town. Two of them have been very positive. One is Fayad’s way down in the southeast portion of town (5002 Rent Worth Drive). Fayad managed to squeeze me into a tight queue in an emergency situation with little notice, and fixed the problem quickly and inexpensively so I could leave town for an important trip. Although that is my only experience with his shop, I would likely go back again. The other notable place I take my car to regularly is Kevin Gilbert’s shop - Economy and Performance Auto, - at 233 N. 19th St., a stone’s throw from UNL city campus. Someone told me that Kevin has a reputation for being honest, helpful, and for doing good work. In the 3-4 times I have taken my car there, I have always been satisfied. Since I live and work near that area, I take my car to Economy and Performance regularly. Are there other reliable auto repair shops out there worth knowing about?

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.
I don’t have any places to add, but my father and I both swear by Economy and Performance, and we have a family tradition of saving money by driving old cars and taking good care of them.
I always take the vehicles to C&L Automotive. They are at about 11th and Saunders (block south of Cornhusker Hwy). They have been great with my first car, second and now the third. Gary is a straight forward honest guy who will do whatever it takes to get you back and running. My family has been going there for about 14 years now.
Here I will list all of my positive auto repair experiences:
When I came to lincoln in 98 I didn’t have a car. When I finally did have a car around 2000, I was given the name to one place. Trade Center Automotive. They are around 48th & Old Cheaney. I have never been to a place where they will finish your car in one day. And if it’s not ready in one day…it’s ready the next morning. I haver had nothing but good experiences there and will recomend them to anybody who wants to know.
I have been going to Olstens, 33rd and Leighton, for about 15 years. I used to work on the same block and they do me right.
kind of strange when the repair shop refuses to do work on your car. I needed a cv joint repair and figured I would just do both sides, the guy said well the other is cracked but you could easily get another year out of it, you should wait. Kewl.
I have a honda and you need to change the timing belt every 100,000 miles. I was way over that milage and had been putting off the expensive job. Finally took it in and they informed me I had already done it a year or so earlier after looking through their records. Woops looks like it slipped my mind, but they did not profit off of my ignorance.
only once have I been hosed (literaly) by them. They did some major work and asked me if I wanted my engine cleaned. I figured why not, but it cost $60. Looked really clean though.
I am looking for something a little closer to home though. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I absolutely love E & P - being a girl who knows little about cars, it’s easy to get burned. I’ve been going to Kevin for 5+ years now and he’s always told me when something doesn’t need to be fixed. For years I had an old Honda Civic Wagovan that I swore I would just drive until it broke. Kevin knew this, and would tell me when something was worth getting fixed or not, since I was planning on driving it into the gorund anyway.
