Anybody With the Nickname G.I. Joel Can’t Be All Bad

By: Mr. Wilson on March 3, 2010
The Lincoln School Board has offered the superintendent job to Grand Island's Stephen Joel. The Journal Star has some basic info on Joel, as well as a profile of him. I don't have much to say about Mr. Joel's selection, aside from that he looks fine on paper. My biggest hope is that he embraces Lincoln as his home and decides to hang around for a good long while. Do you have any thoughts about Steve Joel's selection?

I really haven’t had any contact with any of the candidates except for Marilyn Moore - and I’m a big fan of hers.

My teacher friend remarked on their selection: “The only thing that means for me is that he’s used to Nebraska, so he won’t cancel school all of the time!”

The main reason I don’t like him is because of the Lincoln Journal-Star’s headline. He could be a fine superintendent, who knows; but as my students and I decided, that headline is the number one reason for the electric chair to be brought back—for the author.

The headline was cruel and unusual punishment for my eyes, brain, and esophagus as I threw up a little in my mouth.

It makes me want to so on a Dr. Cox like rant from Scrubs… but I digress.
