Another South Downtown Change?

By: Mr. T on August 24, 2007
Heard today that the building on the west side of 13th and L that used to house the short-lived Ma Lou's and M13 Sandwich Shop has been sold to new owners. Coming in 2008? A coffee shop and bakery. If true, this will be good for me as it is right on my daily commute to work.

You must have been a block or two behind or ahead of me! Yeah they are selling all the crap in there apparently. Its a weird building, but currently a waste of REALLY good space in my opinion. If someone can do it right, they could have a very nice operation in there.

Lincoln needs a good old-fashioned bakery. I’m still weepy about Mettler’s closing on 11th and G. I loved those raisin-cinnamon rolls.

Parking will suck at that location but it was a nice walk for me to grab a sandwich there when it was M13. Close to the Capitol, City/County and the State Office Building. The right business should do well there.

Thank God we are getting another coffee place. I was worried we weren’t going to have enough there for a minute.

Am I the only person in North America who still makes a cup of Folgers every morning?

I am with Foxspit.. When I moved back to town last fall I was extremely disappointed that Mettler’s was not around.  There is Randy’s for donuts and several okay bagel places and Le Quartier if I want to go a little fancier.  There is no good all around bakery and I need my carbs to maintain my lifestyle.

haha Moses. Conroy’s over in College View used to be pretty good. I used to live a block or so east of there and had the smell of fresh pastries wafting right up to my front porch some mornings. I think the Vision 2015 people have a secret coffee master plan. Hopefully it makes downtown smell yummy.

I used to brew Folger’s regularly. I’ve been branching out. I brewed some Chock Full-O-Nuts this morning.

I used to bike to Mettlers and inhale one of those enormous cinnamon-raisin rolls and wash it down with a chocolate milk. Made the bike ride home a little tough, but it was soooooo good.
