Wal-Mart lovers rejoice: the big, bad, All-American bully of retail is coming to 84th and Adams. Apparently Wal-Mart decided it could live within 175,000 square feet after all, despite its earlier protestations that 190,000 was the smallest it could go, and despite its initial preference for 230,000. (Then again, according to Mayor Seng's math 175,000 x 2 is better than 230,000 x 1, so apparently everybody is a little fuzzy on their numbers these days.)
As a southsider who makes occasional trips to Omaha, this news just represents one more source of traffic on 84th Street making the drive to I-80 more difficult. Before long I'll have to drive west to Highway 77 just to get to Omaha. South and East Beltways, where are you?

We drove to the home show at the event center this weekend and it took a good 25-30 minutes to get there from our house. I think it would be faster to go west to 77 to get on I-80, which is crazy.
The whole Wal-Mart thing just makes my head hurt. No one ends up looking good or progressive in the whole deal. It is just a sad situation…and all for a silly Wal-Mart.
I do have to wonder what “cheap plastic Chinese junk” the LJS commenters think Wal-Mart is selling. In my experience, Wal-Mart mostly sells national brands, i.e. the same stuff that Target, ShopKo, Hy-Vee, etc., sell. Try to at least make rational arguments people! :O)
As for traffic, I am not looking forward to it when going to the Interstate. Living off South 70th, heading up 84th is by far the best option and I hate to see it get even slower. It makes me long for my days living on West O.
How about another Best Buy?
Lincoln is in desperate need of another one. The one we have now is to small AND the parking is a nightmare, especially during the holiday season.
