You are the Nebraska Athletic Director. Would you take a risk and dump the Devaney Center to move into a fancy new arena Downtown? Or would you play it safe and work with the facility you already own free and clear?

If I could make the dollars work, I would definitely dump Devaney. UNL wants more land up that way anyway. But there’s the whole track and pool issue so I can see the whole building not going anywhere.I think the only way to make the new arena a reality is to partner with the Huskers in some fashion or another. And SP has done such a thing before. It’s also worked out well for the Huskers and Saltdogs to share.

Here you go - problem solved:
1) Let the University partner with the City and some private investors and pay for a serious chunk of a new arena in the Haymarket. It will no doubt be a palace of sport. Lincoln wins, the Huskers win.
2) Disassemble Devaney and cart it down to Manhattan, KS so K-State can have a decent place to watch a basketball game. When NU plays there once a year, all the NU fans who miss it can still go enjoy it, just wear magenta glasses so all the stuff painted purple looks “redder”.
Yes - I’m a born and bred Wildcat, so I can say this without being an arseknuckle. I like Devaney - I’ve always enjoyed attending games there. But look what I am comparing it to - our “Colosseum” sucks. It has since the day they built it. It is a lifeless soul-sucking pit. Literally. (Don’t get me started on my opinions of WHY that is, it involves drugs, drama, blood-money, curses and karma… and is completely unsubstantiated by facts, so I won’t repeat it here.)
The facilities at NU have always been some of the best in the country. I think you are spoiled in that regard. However, I suppose that is what KEEPS them some of the best in the country - the constant demand for improvement.

If I were AD for the day, I would try and break the record for most used cars sold in one day…
